Express Recruitment are proud to be supporting an established public services organisation in its search for an Environmental Officer to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and technically skilled individual to play a key role in delivering high-quality scientific and technical services within a dynamic public sector environment.

The successful candidate will provide technical professional services to protect the health, safety and welfare of residents, businesses, visitors and employees in the authority; working with businesses to help them comply with their legal duties.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality, timely and accurate professional advice, guidance and information to a wide range of stakeholders in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Deliver regulatory and advisory services in line with relevant legislation, policies, procedures and professional standards.
  • Undertake a varied workload including inspections, investigations, audits, project work, complaint handling, evidence gathering and report writing, determining appropriate actions where required.
  • Manage an assigned caseload, maintaining accurate records, updating systems and ensuring compliance with service standards and statutory requirements.
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal teams, external organisations and stakeholders to support effective service delivery and minimise adverse impacts of regulatory activity.
  • Contribute to service development through research, monitoring, training support, public engagement and continuous professional development, including maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice.
Skills and Experience Required:
  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Successful completion (or imminent completion) of an Environmental Health/ Science degree or science postgraduate MSc course.
  • Fully qualified EHORB registered and eligible for Corporate Membership of the CIEH (EHO).
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills when engaging with a wide range of contacts, including colleagues, stakeholders, and members of the public.
  • Adaptable, has a flexible attitude and is able to adjust to change in tasks at short notice.
  • Knowledge of the ‘team specific’ relevant laws, powers, codes of practice, guidance, policies.
