Build institutional-grade financial models for AI companies from incomplete data.
What you'll do:
- Build full financial models (P&L, cash flow, balance sheet) for private and public companies; and simplified, driver-based models where a full model is not warranted.
- Create scenario analysis with sourced assumptions and confidence ratings.
- Document your methodology and reasoning, and work with our team to identify methods and sources where gaps exist. Every assumption sourced, every revision logged.
- If an estimation approach hits a wall, help design better methods.
- You're testing what works and iterating fast, not following a fixed playbook.
Key requirements:
- 2+ years of pre-MBA financial modelling experience. Sell-side equity research, buy-side, investment banking, or equivalent role where you built and maintained detailed financial models for institutional clients.
- Excel/Google Sheets mastery. Python basics helpful.
- Fluency with LLMs and AI agents – our expectation will be that an analyst with strong AI fluency can produce 2-3x the output of a traditional workflow. Your judgment will be the bottleneck.
- Comfortable with ambiguity.
- Detail-oriented but can move fast. Startup pace, not bank pace.
- Intellectually honest about model limitations.
- Genuinely interested in AI and tech markets. Ideally you can explain the difference between inference and training compute costs.
What we’re NOT looking for:
- A generalist consultant who's "done some financial modelling." We need someone for whom financial models are a core professional output, not an occasional deliverable.
- Someone who needs to be taught what institutional investors expect. You should be calibrated on this from direct experience.
Benefits of this internship:
- Deep exposure to AI economy analysis. You'll develop a working understanding of AI company economics that most professional investors don't have.
- Work with experienced leadership. You'll work directly with Exponential View founder Azeem Azhar, whose long-standing career in AI and technology spans investing, startups, a best-selling book, and one of the most widely read technology newsletters. You'll present regularly and learn to communicate complex analysis clearly.
- Strong positioning for post-MBA careers in AI strategy, venture capital, tech investing, or product management.
Logistics
- Duration: 12 weeks (potential to extend)
