Overall purpose of the job:

As a Commercial Management Accountant you will play a pivotal role within our team supporting our financial compliance whilst helping drive commercial growth with insightful reporting and analysis.

Key responsibilities for this job:

Financial Reporting and analysis

  • Managing the month end and year end close processes related to revenue, cost of sales, receivables and other key areas of our financials.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of revenue and customer COS, across the business units, revenue sectors and revenue types (including: non-recurring transactions, committed contracted revenues and PAYG revenue).
  • Provide and deliver insightful commentary to the management team during the month end close meeting.
  • Conduct detailed cost analysis and margin review of our top 25 customers. Identifying areas of margin maximisation, redundant costs and assist with cost reduction opportunities.
  • Manage, mentor and develop an assistant management accountant to ensure they deliver high quality work, and to support their growth.
  • Prepare and review Balance sheet reconciliations including revenue, cost of sales, contract assets, customer PPE, impairment, prepayments, accruals and provisions. Ensuring accuracy of financial reporting and highlighting areas requiring further analysis. Tracking and completion of balance sheet action points.
  • Responsible for the regular review of expected credit loss provision in accordance with IFRS9.
  • Supporting and providing cover for other members of the reporting team as and when required.
  • Adhoc projects and support the Group Financial Controller and Financial Reporting Team as required.

Stakeholder collaboration:

  • Prepare and deliver insightful financial presentations, making the large volume of data accessible and actionable for our leadership team.
  • To build an understanding of the planning process, to ensure we embed forward looking analysis across all of the Portfolio Business to feed into the Business Plan and the FP&A team.
  • Drive and actively engage in process improvement and efficiency initiatives within wider finance and non-finance teams. To manage, develop and maintain strong controls around the completeness and accuracy of billing, revenue and receivables.
  • Collaborate with sales, delivery team, contracts manager and accountant, to identify complex contracts which need to be separated from our portfolio of contracts.
  • Collaborate with our Group reporting accountant to ensure intercompany revenue and costs are correctly accounted for.

Compliance and Controls:

  • You will be the driving force in ensuring current controls are maintained and continuing to improve the controls and processes currently in place.
  • Own the reporting for ONS reporting ensuring surveys are completed accurately and on time.
  • Liaison with external auditors during our interim and year end audit work as required.

Knowledge and experience required:

  • Newly qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent (finalist level may also be considered).
  • Experience managing and mentoring direct reports.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of the impact of accounting processes on the wider business.
  • Knowledge and experience in IFRS is preferable.
  • Experience in IT/ Technology / Telecoms industry is beneficial, but not required.

Skills and behaviour:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and being able to respond to evolving priorities.
  • Self driven, can pick up assigned projects, own them and be accountable to deliver results.
  • Organised and ability to work under pressure.
  • Confident in summarising findings, and communicating and presenting to both finance and non-finance professionals.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • High standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
