We are currently seeking a Managing Scientist for an environmental modeller / risk assessor in biocides and industrial chemicals role in our Chemical Regulation and Food Safety Practice. The position will be based in Harrogate (UK), Basel (CH) or Mannheim (DE). Home working and flexible working arrangements will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Managing the delivery of the environmental section of projects and conducting environmental exposure and risk assessments for biocidal products as required by EU legislation (Biocidal Products Regulation (EU) 528/2012).
- Conducting environmental exposure and risk assessments for industrial chemicals as required by EU legislation (REACH Regulation (EU) 1272/2008).
- Commissioning and monitoring environmental fate studies.
- Summarising and interpreting data, including study reports and published literature in the area of environmental fate and ecotoxicology, drawing sound scientific and regulatory conclusions.
- Providing high quality verbal and/or written inputs to multi‑disciplinary project teams.
- Providing strategic advice to clients on environmental exposure / environmental risk assessment issues.
- Ensuring that projects are delivered to high standards on time and within agreed budget.
- Training and development of junior members of the team.
Qualifications and Skills
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree or equivalent in relevant discipline (e.g., biology, chemistry, environmental science); a higher degree (MSc, PhD) would also be an advantage.
- Strong working knowledge of EU biocides legislation (Biocidal Products Regulation (EU) 528/2012) and industrial chemicals legislation (REACH Regulation (EU) 1272/2008) supported by relevant professional experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong team working skills.
- Sound judgement and decision‑making ability.
- Experience in monitoring environmental fate and behaviour studies in accordance with relevant guidelines and bringing those studies to a successful conclusion.
- Proven ability to deliver projects to high standards, on time and within agreed budget.
- Good numeracy skills.
- Staff management experience would be a distinct advantage.
