We are currently seeking a Managing Engineer for our Thermal Sciences Practice in London, UK. In this role, you will work as part of a team to lead large, multidisciplinary recall projects affecting the safety of millions of consumer products used daily by their owners.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and applying laboratory testing, engineering calculations and analyses, and physics-based models to evaluate root cause and safety performance.
  • Preparing proposals, presentations and technical reports, and presenting findings to clients.
  • Project work may require travel (within and outside of the U.K.).
  • Developing new business and attracting new clients/projects.
  • Assisting with project management.
  • Growing and developing the Thermal Sciences practice in the London office.
  • Working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment and mentoring junior staff.
  • Engaging in professional development opportunities including, but not limited to, producing peer-reviewed publications, participating in technical conferences, and pursuing professional licensure or certifications.

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, with specialisation in thermal-fluid sciences.
  • Professional licensure, chartered status, and/or technical certifications in a relevant discipline, or the qualifications and experience necessary to obtain such credentials is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, combustion, and energy systems.
  • Proven track record conducting incident investigations and hazard assessment via any recognised methodology.
  • Expertise in fire and explosion investigations, lithium-ion battery systems, consumer product safety, and failure analysis.
  • Experience conducting complex forensic investigations involving consumer products, industrial equipment, transportation systems, and energy infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and apply laboratory testing, engineering analyses, and physics-based models to evaluate root cause and safety performance.
  • Proven leadership, mentoring, and project-management experience in multidisciplinary technical environments.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to gather information from and convey technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, the legal profession, business and industry.
  • Business development experience with a proven track record, and a demonstrated ability to attract new and/or repeat clients or funding.
  • Strong understanding of relevant industry standards and guidance.
  • Established record of technical publications, presentations, and thought leadership.
