Join us in keeping York's most loved community spaces running.
At Explore York Libraries and Archives, we're more than a library service. We run vibrant libraries, archives, community hubs and cultural spaces that welcome more than 915,000 visitors each year. As an independent mutual, we're owned by our staff and community members and are passionate about creating places where people can read, learn, create and belong.
We're looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Buildings Officer to play a key role in maintaining, developing and improving our estate across York.
This newly created role offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of our buildings, helping to ensure they remain safe, compliant, sustainable and fit for the future. You'll have the chance to make a visible impact across the organisation while supporting services that sit at the heart of local communities.
What you'll do
As our Buildings Officer, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day building maintenance and facilities operations across multiple sites.
Working closely with colleagues, contractors and external partners, you'll help create safe, efficient and welcoming environments for staff, volunteers and visitors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Co-ordinating maintenance activities across our estate.
- Supporting Facilities Assistants.
- Ensuring statutory compliance and health and safety requirements are met.
- Overseeing planned and reactive maintenance programmes.
- Managing contractor performance and service delivery.
- Supporting energy efficiency initiatives and sustainability projects.
- Contributing to future estate planning and investment decisions.
About you
We're looking for someone who combines practical facilities management expertise with strong organisational and people skills.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience in facilities, property or building management.
- Knowledge of statutory compliance, health and safety and building maintenance requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving and organisational abilities.
- Experience managing contractors and building positive working relationships.
- The confidence to work independently while balancing multiple priorities.
- A proactive mindset and a commitment to high standards.
A recognised Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH, together with experience of working within historic or public-facing buildings, would be advantageous.
You’ll be joining a purpose-driven organisation with ambitious plans for the future, helping to care for buildings that sit at the heart of communities across York. Every day brings something different, and your work will directly support services that thousands of people rely on.
If you're practical, proactive and ready to help us build for the future, we'd love to hear from you. #J-18808-Ljbffr
