Overview

Expleo is a global engineering, technology and consulting organisation delivering complex engineering and digital solutions across the aerospace, defence, rail, automotive and other high-technology sectors.

As part of Expleo Defence in Belfast, you will support the delivery of complex engineering programmes, working closely with customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams across Systems and Software.

We are looking for an experienced Work Package Manager to join our Systems & Software team in Belfast.

The successful candidate will take ownership of defined engineering work packages, ensuring that activities are planned, coordinated and delivered to the required time, cost, quality and technical standards.

This is a key role operating across Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, project management and customer-facing teams.

You will be responsible for coordinating technical teams, managing dependencies and risks, tracking progress and providing clear reporting to programme and project leadership.

The role would suit an experienced Systems or Software Engineer who has progressed into technical leadership, project delivery or work package management, or an established Work Package Manager with a strong engineering background.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of allocated Systems and/or Software engineering work packages from planning through to delivery.
  • Develop and maintain detailed work package plans, schedules, milestones and deliverables.
  • Coordinate engineering activities across Systems, Software and wider multidisciplinary teams.
  • Define and manage work package scope, objectives, deliverables and acceptance criteria.
  • Monitor progress against agreed cost, schedule, quality and technical performance targets.
  • Identify, manage and escalte risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies.
  • Work closely with Engineering Leads, Project Managers, Programme Managers and Technical Authorities.
  • Coordinate resource requirements and ensure the appropriate engineering capability is available to deliver the work package.
  • Support forecasting of engineering effort, costs and resource requirements.
  • Monitor actual performance against planned effort and provide appropriate corrective actions where required.
  • Manage interfaces between engineering teams and ensure technical dependencies are understood and controlled.
  • Support the development and maintenance of engineering schedules and integrated programme plans.
  • Prepare and present regular work package status reports to project and programme leadership.
  • Support customer meetings, technical reviews and programme reviews as required.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are produced to the required quality and compliance standards.
  • Support configuration, requirements, verification and validation activities where applicable.
  • Ensure appropriate traceability of requirements through design, implementation, integration and verification.
  • Support the management of technical change and assess its impact on scope, cost and schedule.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering and project delivery processes.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with relevant company, customer and defence standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree, HND/HNC or equivalent qualification in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Relevant professional engineering or project management qualifications would be advantageous.

  • Demonstrable experience managing scope, schedule, resources, risks and dependencies.
  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of the engineering lifecycle and structured development processes.
  • Experience working to defined technical, quality and programme requirements.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to understand technical issues and translate them into clear project and delivery actions.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience producing progress reports and presenting information to senior stakeholders.
  • Previous experience within the defence, aerospace, marine, rail or other highly regulated engineering sectors.
  • Experience working within a Systems Engineering lifecycle/V-model environment.
  • Experience with MBSE, Sys ML or UML.
  • Experience managing software development work packages.
  • Experience with requirements management and verification.
  • Experience working within safety-critical or mission-critical environments.
  • Experience working with customers and suppliers.
