As part of our continued support to a major customer in the space industry, we are looking for Mechatronics Technicians to work on high end space capability assembly at our client’s facility. This role will need self motivation and extreme care and precision of work, monitoring cleanliness and contamination standards, and ensuring on-time, on-cost delivery with a “right first time” approach.

This role will form part of our customers Propulsion and products department responsible for the manufacture of the Antenna Deployment and Trimming Mechanism and the Solar Array Deployment Mechanisms. You will need to be skilled in the following areas: mechanical assembly, mechanical integration and harness manufacture. The main activities of this work package will be to perform mechanical and electrical activities on spacecraft sub assemblies including the list of activities below:

  • Harness routing
  • Harness crimping
  • Harness soldering
  • PCB soldering
  • Multimeter and Megger use
  • Connector assembly and installation
  • Torque loading with running torque
  • Use of hand measuring tools
  • Adhesive bonding of thermal equipment
  • Adhesive potting and encapsulation
  • Precision bearing assembly
  • Rotor assembly
  • Equipment assembly
  • Wire thread insert installation
  • Thread and head locking
  • Hand and ultrasonic cleaning
  • Thermal and mechanical test support
  • Close tolerance fitting (gear chain, spring backlash assembly)

Qualifications:

  • Fully Indentured Apprenticeship in Mechanical / Production / Manufacturing / Electronic
  • Minimum BTEC ONC or equivalent qualification in an Engineering discipline
  • Suitable and relevant experience can substitute for qualifications

Essential skills:

  • Electronic hands on assembly and equipment integration
  • Precision Mechanical Installation and Assembly Experience
  • Good team player and have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to prioritise their time to meet quality and schedule commitments
  • Computer literacy to provide data, reports, or statistics, generally using Microsoft Office templates

Desired skills:

  • Experience working in a clean room
  • Experience working in Aerospace
  • Experience Working in the Space Sector

Experience:

  • Experience working and delivering in a mechatronic environment
  • Understanding & knowledge of Space/Aerospace Quality Assurance Requirements
  • Previous experience of both mechanical and electrical installation, testing and integration

  • Ability/willingness to work within the Stevenage area full time
  • Ability/willingness to support shift working (two shifts 06:00-14:00 & 14:00-22:00) for which a shift premium is payable
  • Flexibility to travel, on occasion, within the UK and abroad if necessary
