We have several exciting ongoing projects with clients across both commercial and naval marine domains and are seeking to expand our existing Marine Engineering capability. As a Senior Marine Engineer, every day at Expleo will be out of the ordinary and will require you to be dynamic and responsive to changes in technology, innovation, and client requirements. You will have the opportunity to get involved in pre-concept and concept sub-surface vessel design, complex engineering design and analysis tasks, the creation of new and innovative tools and processes, the delivery of engineering consultancy services, and the development of new business opportunities across a wide range of UK maritime programmes.

Initial opportunity identified working as a consultant within a pre-concept design group, supporting the development of future submarine design. This role shall require the candidate to work on-site with our client for a minimum of 3 days per week for a duration of approximately 12 months. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid arrangement, providing more options to balance their work and personal life whilst ensuring business needs are achieved upon completion of this initial requirement. Your primary place of work will be Bristol and occasional travel to client sites will be required, dependent upon project.

Responsibilities

  • Apply and continue to develop a breadth of engineering skills, in the discipline of Marine Engineering and where applicable, covering disciplines such as mechanical, structural, and electrical systems.
  • Contribute to the development of new business opportunities and generate technical scopes, risk registers and work breakdown structures.
  • Define and conduct engineering analyses, technical studies and research and development projects, making use of your knowledge and experience, to deliver high quality solutions to our customers and clients.
  • Provide mentoring support, guidance and leadership to aid with the development of our Marine Engineers to grow their technical and behavioural skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Investigate and solve complex technical problems in concept, basic and detailed designs.
  • Develop and maintain written technical and administrative procedures, standards, processes, practices, guidelines, and standards.
  • Interface directly with our customers and clients, representing our teams to discuss and deliver engineering solutions to complex problems.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Marine Technology, Naval Engineering), or equivalent experience in the naval and commercial ship design, construction, or maintenance domain.
  • Professional member of a relevant engineering institution (e.g., RINA, IMarEST, IMechE, IET).

Essential skills

  • Experience of the following key technical knowledge areas: Platform System Design (Hydraulics, Sanitation, Air Systems, Atmosphere Monitoring), Control Systems (Platform Management System, Active Vehicle Control), Wholeboat System Design and Integration, Space, Weight and Power Estimations, Pre-concept and Concept Design Development (Ship Systems), Vessel and System Concept Design.
  • Experience of using various engineering software packages (e.g., Siemens NX, Rhino, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Ansys Structural/Fluent, Python, MS Excel).
  • A readiness to grow and develop your technical and behavioural competence to operate at the cutting edge of your discipline.
  • The drive to work in a collaborative environment with a natural curiosity and continuous improvement approach, challenging yourself and others to find new solutions.
  • A proven track record of delivering reliability, productivity and quality in a technical consultancy environment.
  • A passion to grow and support others through strong technical leadership, helping to identify new opportunities for technical and behavioural development and progression.

Desired skills

  • A clear understanding of the role of a Marine Engineer throughout all stages of the design lifecycle (CADMID).
  • An understanding of classification society rules, regulations and standards in the design, construction and in-service lifecycle phases.
  • Experience of whole ship design including assessment of performance, design integration, construction, and through-life maintenance.
  • Experience of working in multi-company and engineering discipline teams with an ability to communicate effectively.
  • Experience in a technical consulting environment, leading and/or supporting multiple engineering projects and customers.

Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience (8 years for non-degree qualified) working in the naval maritime domain, ideally submarines.
