Overview

As part of our continued growth within the Utilities sector, we are seeking an experienced Business Analyst (GIS) to support the delivery of business transformation and digital initiatives within the UK water industry.

The successful candidate will work closely with operational, asset management and technology stakeholders to analyse business processes, gather and document requirements, and support the implementation of GIS-enabled solutions.

This role requires a strong understanding of ESRI technologies, geospatial data and business analysis best practices to drive operational efficiency and maximise the value of GIS investments.

Responsibilities

  • Elicit, analyse and document business, functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews and stakeholder engagement sessions to understand business needs.
  • Conduct process mapping, gap analysis and impact assessments across GIS-related business functions.
  • Translate business requirements into clear functional specifications, user stories and delivery documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with GIS specialists, architects, developers, project managers and data teams to support solution design and implementation.
  • Support the enhancement and deployment of ESRI-based GIS solutions.
  • Ensure geospatial and business data requirements are accurately captured and maintained.
  • Support testing activities, including test scenario creation, User Acceptance Testing (UAT) planning and execution.
  • Assist with change management activities and stakeholder adoption of new processes and technologies.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of business processes and GIS capabilities.
  • Produce high-quality reporting and communicate progress, risks and recommendations to stakeholders and project leader.

  • Strong understanding of geospatial data, mapping solutions and GIS workflows.
  • Proven ability to facilitate workshops and stakeholder engagement sessions.
  • Strong process modelling and business analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into business-focused solutions and vice versa.
  • Knowledge of geospatial data governance and data quality frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall or hybrid delivery methodologies.

Experience

  • Proven experience working as a Business Analyst within complex business and technology environments.
  • Strong experience with ESRI GIS platforms and geospatial technologies.

  • Experience gathering, analysing and documenting business requirements.
  • Experience working across the full project lifecycle.
  • Previous experience within the Utilities sector, particularly Water, Energy, Gas or Infrastructure environments.
  • Experience supporting asset management or field operations programmes.
  • Experience supporting digital transformation initiatives.
