An opportunity has arisen for a Systems Engineer specialising in Homologation & Safety to support the delivery of high-performance vehicle programmes within a complex automotive engineering environment. This role focuses on ensuring that vehicle systems—particularly those related to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and automated driving—meet all applicable regulatory, safety, and type approval requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in implementing safety frameworks, managing regulatory compliance, and maintaining traceability from legislation through to system validation and certification.
Working at the intersection of systems engineering, regulatory compliance, and vehicle development, this position requires strong technical knowledge, structured thinking, and the ability to coordinate across engineering teams and supply chain partners.
Responsibilities- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of a Safety Management System (SMS) across the organisation.
- Identify, interpret, and document all relevant homologation and type approval requirements, particularly for ADAS and automated driving systems.
- Ensure regulatory requirements are clearly translated into engineering deliverables, system requirements, and validation activities.
- Maintain full end-to-end traceability between:
- Regulatory and legislative requirements
- System and vehicle-level requirements
- Verification and validation activities
- Certification and type approval evidence
- Cascade regulatory obligations to internal engineering teams and external suppliers, ensuring clarity, alignment, and compliance.
- Support the development and compilation of type approval documentation and evidence packs.
- Collaborate with systems, software, hardware, and vehicle engineering teams to ensure compliance is embedded throughout the development lifecycle.
- Participate in technical reviews, audits, and regulatory assessments.
- Monitor changes in automotive legislation and standards, assessing impact on current and future programmes.
- Support risk identification and mitigation related to safety and homologation compliance.
- Contribute to programme delivery by ensuring regulatory milestones are met in line with project timing plans.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong academic or professional background in automotive systems and vehicle development.
- Good understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle processes (V-cycle).
- Strong knowledge of automotive homologation, type approval processes, and regulatory frameworks.
- Understanding of ADAS and automated driving systems, including associated legislation and standards.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into technical engineering requirements.
- Experience with requirements management and traceability tools/processes.
- Familiarity with functional safety principles and safety management systems.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate technical and regulatory concepts clearly.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex documentation and compliance activities.
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with global automotive regulations (e.g. UNECE, EU, UK, or other regional frameworks).
- Experience supporting or implementing Safety Management Systems (SMS).
- Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g. ISO 26262) and/or SOTIF (ISO 21448).
- Experience with requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS, Polarion, Jama).
- Understanding of vehicle certification processes for advanced or autonomous systems.
- Experience working with regulatory authorities or certification bodies.
- Proven experience within the automotive industry, ideally in systems engineering, homologation, safety, or compliance roles.
- Experience working with ADAS, automated driving systems, or vehicle electronics.
- Demonstrated experience supporting type approval or regulatory compliance activities.
- Experience maintaining traceability across requirements, validation, and certification artefacts.
- Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams and coordinating with suppliers.
- Exposure to vehicle programme delivery environments, including timing and milestone management.
