An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Software Programme Coordinator to support the successful delivery of vehicle software development programmes within a fast-paced automotive engineering environment.

This role plays a key part in coordinating software activities across multiple vehicle programmes, ensuring that software releases, gateway deliverables, and digital requirements are managed effectively throughout the product development lifecycle. Working closely with software, systems, validation, and programme teams, the successful candidate will provide governance, reporting, and delivery oversight to ensure software readiness targets are achieved.

The position requires excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining effective communication across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Programme Coordination & Governance
    • Coordinate software activities across multiple vehicle programmes to ensure timely delivery against programme milestones and gateway requirements.
    • Maintain governance and oversight of software readiness activities throughout the development lifecycle.
    • Produce and maintain accurate reports identifying:
    • Outstanding actions
    • Responsible owners
    • Delivery timelines
    • Programme risks and dependencies
    • Monitor software delivery progress and proactively identify potential issues that may impact programme timing.
    • Escalate risks and support mitigation activities to minimise impact on downstream vehicle development activities.
  • Software Release & Requirements Management
    • Manage and monitor the lifecycle of software requirements and feature delivery activities.
    • Track software releases and code drops to ensure alignment with programme plans and feature implementation schedules.
    • Ensure software deliverables are completed within agreed timescales and comply with gateway preconditions.
    • Collaborate with software leads, module owners, and engineering teams to ensure requirements are fully implemented and released.
  • Issue Management & Reporting
    • Monitor software-related issues and ensure effective allocation to the appropriate engineering teams.
    • Track issue resolution progress and ensure timely closure based on programme priorities.
    • Produce high-quality reporting and maintain accurate programme data.
    • Support engineering change and configuration management activities where required.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Software Engineering teams
    • Systems Engineering teams
    • Validation and Test teams
    • Programme Management teams
    • Suppliers and external partners
    • Facilitate communication across functions to ensure alignment on software delivery priorities.
    • Promote collaborative working and support effective decision-making across multidisciplinary teams.
    • Provide challenge and support where required to ensure programme objectives are achieved.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline (2:1 or above preferred).
  • Understanding of automotive product development processes and software delivery activities.

Essential skills

  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across concurrent programmes.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a focus on data quality and reporting accuracy.
  • Understanding of automotive software development processes, software architecture, and system integration principles.
  • Knowledge of software release management and software lifecycle activities.
  • Familiarity with software configuration management and version control concepts.
  • Understanding of engineering change management processes.
  • Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) principles and development gateways.
  • Understanding of automotive engineering terminology and requirements.
  • Familiarity with Electrical Systems and Controls architectures and associated development activities.
  • Awareness of automotive communication protocols including:
  • CAN (Controller Area Network)
  • LIN (Local Interconnect Network)
  • Automotive Ethernet
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and deliver against demanding programme deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management capability with the confidence to challenge constructively and influence outcomes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across software, systems, validation, hardware, and programme teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Experience using project and issue management tools such as Jira.
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilise new systems, tools, and development environments.

Desired skills

  • Understanding of software feature implementation and ECU release processes.
  • Exposure to requirements management tools and lifecycle management systems.
  • Knowledge of software quality processes and automotive standards.
  • Awareness of Agile development methodologies and modern software delivery practices.

Experience

  • Previous experience in programme coordination, project support, or delivery management within the automotive sector.
  • Experience supporting software development programmes within OEM, Tier 1, or complex engineering environments.
  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams and managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Exposure to software release activities, requirements tracking, and issue management processes.
  • Experience within high-volume, low-volume, or high-performance vehicle programmes is advantageous.
  • Experience working within Electrical Systems, Controls, or Vehicle Software domains.
  • Experience supporting engineering change processes and configuration management activities.
  • Previous experience working in high-performance, premium automotive, or advanced engineering environments.
