An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 1D Simulation Engineer to join a high-performance automotive engineering environment, supporting the development and optimisation of advanced powertrain systems.
This role sits within a multi-disciplinary simulation team, focusing on the development and application of 1D modelling techniques to solve complex fluid flow, thermal, and system-level challenges. The successful candidate will contribute to improving overall power unit efficiency, performance, and reliability through robust simulation, correlation, and development loops.
The position requires a strong analytical mindset, a deep understanding of thermofluid systems, and the ability to work collaboratively across simulation, design, and test teams in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and apply 1D simulation models for powertrain and thermofluid systems, including intake, exhaust, cooling, lubrication, and energy recovery systems.
- Work closely with CFD and cross-functional engineering teams to optimise fluid flow and thermal performance across the power unit.
- Support concept design and system architecture decisions through simulation-driven insights.
- Perform model validation and correlation using test bench and real-world data, ensuring accuracy and predictive capability.
- Develop and enhance bespoke and commercial simulation tools, improving modelling fidelity and efficiency.
- Analyse large datasets, interpret simulation and test results, and provide clear technical recommendations.
- Contribute to development loops, linking simulation, test, and design iterations to drive continuous performance improvements.
- Support engine and powertrain testing activities, including collaboration with test engineers to validate simulation outputs.
- Document methodologies, assumptions, and results, ensuring traceability and knowledge sharing across teams.
