Overview

As an Engineering Delivery Manger, you provide the principle engineering delivery leadership, direction, decision authority and support to the programme or bid.

You will direct and manage the Engineering team on project or bid to achieve company objectives in terms of programme schedule, financial, safety and quality targets and to ensure that the Engineering Processes are applied correctly and appropriately on the project to company, legislative, regulatory and international standards, MUST have RAIL experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the engineering project(s) from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Define project objectives, requirements, and success criteria in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Create culture around safety, collaboration and efficiency.
  • Build and manage high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Mentor and guide team members, providing technical guidance and removing obstacles to their success.
  • Set operational objectives and conduct performance evaluations for team members.
  • Work with the Engineering Functional Teams to ensure that the programme’s Engineering team are competent, developed to their full potential, mobilised and released in a timely and planned manner.
  • Support and assist the Engineering Functional Teams to strengthen the businesses engineering capabilities and competencies.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between engineering teams and stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and issues.
  • Collaborate with product/project managers and business leaders to prioritise project deliverables based on business goals and customer needs.
  • Be visible and influential with the customer, building trust, credibility and collaboration.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
  • Proactively address challenges and roadblocks that may impact project timelines or quality.
  • Ensure that engineering projects meet high-quality standards and adhere to best practices in software and hardware development.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance processes and testing methodologies.
  • Ensure that any Corrective Actions and Observations related to the engineering delivery and solutions are closed in a timely and complete manner.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering teams, promoting efficiency and innovation.
  • Evaluate and implement tools, processes, and methodologies to enhance project delivery.

Qualifications

Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent

Essential skills

  • Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, motivation and inter-personal skills.
  • Strong leadership capability – with ability to build and sustain strong working relationships at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, mentor and coach a diverse team.
  • Ability to deliver a strategy for the multi-disciplinary Engineering team.
  • RAIL Industry Experience a MUST

Experience

  • Systems and technical experience covering all aspects of the project and product lifecycle.
  • A proven record of on-budget, on-time delivery, whilst maximising margin and delighting the customer.
  • A proven record of managing effective teams, tackling under performance, recognising success and developing talent.
  • Experience and knowledge of whole systems engineering lifecycles for large complex systems.
  • Technical/project experience in critical control systems engineering and/or safety critical systems.
