Overview

Expleo is a trusted partner for end-to-end, integrated engineering, quality services and management consulting for digital transformation. We help businesses harness unrelenting technological change to successfully deliver innovations that will help them gain a competitive advantage and improve the everyday lives of people around the globe.

As part of our continued growth in flight controls, we are seeking a Software Development Engineer specialising in modelling, simulation, and verification & validation (V&V) to support the development of next-generation electric rotorcraft (eVTOL) platforms.

This role focuses on the development of aircraft models using MATLAB/Simulink, supporting flight simulation, system validation, and certification activities. You will play a key role in ensuring that models accurately represent aircraft behaviour and are used to support design decisions, verification strategies, and system validation across the programme lifecycle.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge aerospace innovation while working at the intersection of software engineering, systems modelling, and real-world test correlation.

This role is Hybrid working in Bristol.

Responsibilities

Within this role, you will be required to :-

  • Develop and maintain aircraft and system models using MATLAB/Simulink to support simulation and analysis activities.

  • Support Flight Simulation Training Device (FSTD) environments, ensuring models meet fidelity and certification expectations.

  • Contribute to verification and validation activities at aircraft level, using modelling and simulation techniques.

  • Develop and integrate models into simulation frameworks and toolchains, supporting cross-disciplinary use

  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for model development, testing, and deployment

  • Perform data processing and analysis, including comparison of results from simulations, ground tests, and flight tests

  • Develop automation tools and scripts to streamline analysis, comparison, and reporting workflows

  • Correlate simulation results with real-world test data, identifying discrepancies and improving model fidelity

  • Collaborate with systems, safety, and test engineers to ensure models reflect system behaviour and requirements

  • Support test campaigns, including preparation, analysis, and model validation using collected data

  • Produce high-quality technical documentation, including models, assumptions, validation results, and reports

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Chartered engineer or working towards chartered status within a recognised and relevant professional body.
  • Applications are invited from candidates who may hold HNC/HND in a relevant engineering discipline in concert with significant and demonstrable subject matter expertise in the system domain

Essential skills

  • Strong experience in MATLAB/Simulink model development
  • Experience working in simulation environments, ideally including FSTD or high-fidelity simulators
  • Understanding of aircraft systems and modelling principles
  • Experience with verification and validation using models and simulation
  • Strong capability in data analysis and processing, including working with multiple data sources
  • Experience in automation and scripting (e.g. MATLAB scripting, Python or similar)
  • Experience implementing or working with CI/CD pipelines for software or model development
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking capability
  • Clear and concise technical documentation skills

Desired skills

  • Experience with flight simulation, pilot-in-the-loop simulation, or FSTD certification processes

  • Familiarity with aerospace system modelling (flight dynamics, controls, propulsion, or electrical systems)

  • Experience supporting ground and flight test correlation activities

Knowledge of EASA certification standards and model-based verification approaches

  • Familiarity with MBSE environments and integration of models within wider system architecture

  • Experience in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), eVTOL, or emerging aviation platforms

  • Understanding of control systems, dynamics, or real-time simulation environments
