We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a specialist Future Systems Capability Software group supporting the development of solutions for the next generation of Air Defence Systems; developing evolving products whilst maintaining a reputation for safety, performance and dependability. This role focuses on developing robust, maintainable software solutions across the full product lifecycle, from early concept and prototyping through to production and in-service support. You will work in a software engineering lab environment closely integrated with electronics, instrumentation and hardware teams, collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines to deliver high-quality, reliable test capability to meet programme delivery schedules. This position suits a hands-on software engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of software, hardware and electronics rather than purely desktop or web-based development.
Responsibilities
- Design and development of new and evolving software tools and architectures
- Developing software instantiations for future products
- Hands-on engineering role requiring proactive engagement and initiative
- Working collaboratively with teams across the full software development lifecycle
Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Essential skills
- Strong background in software engineering and its system-wide impact
- Collaborative and open development approach
- Experience across the entire software development process including target integration and documentation
- Familiarity with new tools, techniques and approaches to improve development efficiency
- Knowledge of DDS middleware and Real Time Operating Systems
- Understanding of standards such as DefStan 00-55, DO-178C or IEC61508
