As part of our continued growth in test equipment design and development, we are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer with experience in machinery and control panel design to support the development and testing of next-generation electric rotorcraft (eVTOL) platforms. This role is focused on the design, development, and integration of electrical systems, control panels, and test equipment, supporting ground-based testing, system integration, and certification activities. You will contribute to the creation of robust, safe, and compliant electrical solutions that enable effective testing and operation of advanced aerospace systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of sustainable aviation, combining hands-on engineering with cutting-edge technology. This role is Hybrid working in Bristol.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical control panels, machinery control systems, and test equipment interfaces
  • Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layouts aligned with engineering and safety standards
  • Specify and integrate electrical components, including control panels, sensors, actuators, and power distribution systems
  • Support the design and development of test equipment and rigs, including electrical interfaces and control systems
  • Collaborate with mechanical, test, and systems engineers to ensure integrated and functional solutions
  • Support hardware integration, commissioning, and testing, including troubleshooting and fault finding
  • Ensure designs meet applicable standards and regulations (e.g. safety, EMC, and certification requirements)
  • Contribute to design reviews, ensuring solutions are robust, maintainable, and fit for purpose
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including electrical drawings, specifications, and build instructions
  • Support verification and validation activities, ensuring electrical systems perform as intended
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of equipment in laboratory or test environments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Chartered engineer or working towards chartered status within a recognised and relevant professional body.
  • Applications are invited from candidates who may hold HNC/HND in a relevant engineering discipline in concert with significant and demonstrable subject matter expertise in the system domain

Essential skills

  • Strong experience in electrical design, including schematic capture and control panel design
  • Proficiency with electrical design tools (e.g. EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar)
  • Experience with wiring diagrams, harness design, and panel layouts
  • Knowledge of control systems, PLCs, or industrial control architectures
  • Knowledge of CE marking requirements including the Low Voltage Directive and EMC Compatibility regulations.
  • Understanding of power distribution, protection, and grounding/earthing principles
  • Experience with electrical integration of mechanical systems and equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot electrical systems
  • Ability to produce clear and accurate technical documentation
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams

  • Experience in aerospace or safety-critical industries
  • Familiarity with test equipment design and integration
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI considerations and compliance standards
  • Experience working with high-voltage systems, batteries, or electric propulsion technologies
  • Understanding of certification processes and compliance-driven design
  • Experience with LabVIEW, TestStand, or similar test/control software tools
  • Exposure to Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) or eVTOL programmes
