Expleo is a leading Global Engineering Services Provider with UK presence in 10 locations. As part of our continued support to our customer in the space sector, we are looking for an Electrical Specialist (Systems and Functional Test Engineering). The role will be based at our customer’s facility in Stevenage and will need to be prepared to work shifts when required (for which a premium will be paid) and travel within the UK and Europe in support of test campaigns. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop and grow their skills and knowledge within a thriving organisation.
The successful candidate will be engaged in a wide variety of test operations/activities covering all areas of testing. This is an area of significant growth within Expleo, where we are looking at growing our team demonstrating our commitment to continue to grow our space business.
Responsibilities- Interpretation of electrical and functional test requirements from test specifications, including system and mission tests both open and closed loop.
- Provide test solutions to meet the test specification requirements, including test sequence coding, procedure preparation, debug and execution on the FM spacecraft or test bench.
- Close out tests with Post Test Review and Test Report.
- To provide technical inputs to project test reviews (Test Readiness Reviews, Post Test Reviews, Test Review Boards and Non-Conformance Review Boards).
- Development and debug of Automatic Test Procedures (ATP) using a bespoke high-level S/W language (i.e., Open Center, OC Bridge, Accepto/EGS-CC and Terma CCS5 checkout systems) to test the spacecraft systems.
- Preparing and executing spacecraft system investigations in line with actions from Non Conformance Review boards (NRBs).
- Support Spacecraft systems functional and performance tests during environmental tests in the UK and/or Europe (Reference test, TVAC, Magnetic, EMC, functional and performance tests) and launch campaigns.
- Work to company and departmental processes.
- Use Digital Design and Manufacturing Systems (DDMS) tools to prepare and execute work instructions to support the testing.
- Minimum of a degree in an Electrical or space system Engineering related discipline or relevant experience in a similar role (>5 years).
- Working knowledge of Databases.
- Spacecraft systems and subsystem technical knowledge and awareness is essential, e.g. Data Handling, Packet Utilisation Standard, Data Bus Communications – 1553, SpaceWire, Attitude & Orbital Control, Star Trackers, Gyros, Momentum Wheels, Power systems, batteries, Solar Arrays, Thermal Control, heaters, thermostats, FDIR and RF Comms, Scientific Instruments.
- Competent in the use of various test equipment used for electrical measurements, e.g. DMM, oscilloscope, current probes, Data acquisition unit.
- Familiar with the Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Awareness of ‘cleanroom’ disciplines.
- Knowledge of model-based development & verification.
- Spacecraft electrical and harness knowledge would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of Java Eclipse would be advantageous.
- Programming and scripting languages, in particular writing and debugging Linux/Unix bash scripts is an advantage.
- Knowledge of a programming language such as C, Java eclipse would be useful.
- Competent in the use of MIL-STD-1553 bus analysers, monitors, and bus-probe tools.
- Current hands-on experience of writing test sequences/scripts for execution of spacecraft tests from the Central Checkout System (CCS).
- Writing test sequences/scripts for execution of spacecraft functional, system, mission tests including FDIR from the Central Checkout System (CCS).
- Electrical/Spacecraft Systems fault investigation and test sequence debug.
- Environmental and launch test campaigns.
- Preparing test procedure and sequences from test specifications, writing test reports and supporting test and non-conformance reviews.
- Electrical integration of equipment on a spacecraft desirable.
- Ability and willingness to travel to and work on the clients Stevenage site 5 days per week.
- Ability/willingness to support shift working when required (for which an applicable shift premium is payable).
- Ability/willingness to travel as needed to support test campaigns both in the UK and Europe.
