We are looking for Software Test Engineers to drive forward the Defence sector within Electrical and Embedded Systems. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the client project that you support.
The Software Test Engineer will play a vital role in the software development lifecycle by ensuring that software solutions are developed in line with defined processes and industry standards to ensure the reliability, safety, and security of software products.
Responsibilities
- Development of Test Scripts
- Review and Approval of Test Scripts
- Automated and Manual Testing
- Problem investigation and documentation
- Fault Finding
- Production of Testing Documentation
Qualifications
- Degree in an applicable Engineering Discipline
Essential Skills
- Competent in software language Java
- Competent in software language C++
- Competent in software language Python
- Experience of software configuration management (Bitbucket, Artifactory)
- Knowledge/awareness of Software architectures
- Experience of change and task management using JIRA, for aspects such as work backlogs, problem report management, action management
- Experience in implementing unit testing
- Wider software test experience
- Experience of Agile methodologies. For example Scrum, Kanban or scaled agile (SaFE). Used to working to and following defined process documents (such as a Software Development Plan SDP)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- An ability to work as a member of the team both within the project
- Self starter able to work in a proactive manner. Able to learn skills on the job with limited coaching.
- Build relationships with the software team and software architect to lead the delivery
- Ability to develop, deploy, debug software to a target with Linux as the underlying operating system.
- Experience of software build from configuration management using Jenkins (or Git Runners)
- A solid background in computational mathematics, particularly in its application to signal processing, is essential for understanding and implementing complex models
- Experience working with model-driven engineering and handling a mixture of autogenerated and hand‑written code is required
- Technical documentation skills used in the production in software documentation deliverables
Desired Skills
- Self starter able to work in a proactive manner. Able to learn skills on the job with limited coaching.
- Experience of container deployment through technologies such as Docker, Podman and/or Kubernetes. Applications will need to be packaged into containers for deployment. OPUS-C engineers will need to understand how the containers are orchestrated.

- Awareness of automated testing
- Previous defence sector experience
- Software Quality Assurance
- Plugin development
- Awareness of UML modelling (or at least ability to communicate a software design)
