As part of our continued support to our customer in the space sector, this contract role is inside IR35, with the rate negotiable based on experience and seniority. The Welding Technician will be based on site at the customer\βs facility and will work within the Assembly, Integration & Test (AIT) group supporting the manufacture and integration of satellite propulsion systems. Current processes include orbital welding, mechanical assembly, mechanical integration, harness manufacture and alignment operations. The main mission is to perform welding activities on spacecraft.
Responsibilities
- Welding of Titanium and Stainless steel pipe work for propulsion systems using an AMI 207A or Orbitec EVO200-WP Orbital Welder power supply and an AMI Model 9-500 Weld Head.
- Perform mechanical assembly and welding of Titanium and Stainless steel pipe work for propulsion satellite builds
- Mechanical parts assembled/prepared
- Bonding of components
- Welding activities performed in accordance with local documentation standards and engineering drawings
- Procedures completed
- In case of an anomaly or a deviation, observations are generated and escalated to local shift lead or quality personnel
Qualifications
- HNC or HND in engineering/maintenance or Apprenticeship in Aerospace/Space or other high quality production field
Essential Skills
- Working at height
- Trained in applicable H&S standards
- ISO 8 cleanroom disciplines
- Manual handling
- FOD/DIM awareness
Desirable Skills
- Bonding brackets and Tie bases (M001a & A013C)
- wire thread installation (M041a)
- use of hand measuring tools (M129a)
- MLI installation (thermal blanket) (CAIT.08894)
- Set up and operation of AMI 207A or Orbitec EVO200-WP Orbital Welder to complete Titanium and Stainless steel pipe work for Propulsion Systems (M103a & M104a & M105a)
- Pipework cleanliness control (M056a)
- Repair of welding (overwelds)
