We are seeking an experienced

Battery Test Technician to join a Battery Test Operations Team supporting the development and validation of High Voltage (HV) battery systems.

The team is responsible for maintaining productive test operations within battery test laboratories, delivering high-quality electrical characterisation and performance data at cell, module and pack level.

This role will support internal battery testing facilities, ensuring efficient operation and high-quality test output for engineering teams and project stakeholders.

The successful candidate will become highly proficient in battery test equipment and instrumentation, supporting maintenance activities, issue resolution, process improvements, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Start, stop, monitor, run and safely shut down battery test schedules.
  • Communicate test chamber status and utilisation through reports and tracking documentation.
  • Diagnose and rectify test and equipment issues, escalating where required.
  • Identify and acquire appropriate test scripts from engineering teams.
  • Create and maintain work instructions and operational process documentation.

• Conduct test setup activities including

  • Rig fabrication and assembly
  • Test instrumentation
  • HV and LV electrical connections
  • Cooling system connections
  • Support modifications to test plans based on results and findings.
  • Complete job cards and work assignments as directed by the supervisor.
  • Fabricate and assemble jigs from technical drawings ready for installation.
  • Install and remove test components from environmental chambers.
  • Build cooling rigs from supplied schematics.
  • Support 5S and continuous improvement activities.
  • Carry out health checks on Units Under Test (UUT).
  • Ensure all tooling and equipment remains within calibration requirements.
  • Report non-conformances and equipment issues.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and comply with all Health & Safety requirements.
  • Update internal systems with facility and project-related issues.
  • Support material handling and logistics activities.
  • Attend training and development courses as required.
  • Support the training and development of Technician-level colleagues.
  • Undertake any additional duties reasonably requested by management.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience within an engineering test, manufacturing, laboratory, prototype, automotive or similar technical environment.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working with mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience working with battery testing equipment or HV systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience supporting test facilities or environmental chambers.
  • Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in an Engineering-related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
