We have several exciting on-going projects with clients across both commercial & naval marine domains and are seeking to expand our existing Marine Engineering capability. As a Principal Marine Engineer, you will lead pre-concept/concept surface & sub-surface vessel design, complex engineering design & analysis tasks, the creation of new & innovative tools & processes, the delivery of engineering consultancy services, and the development of new business opportunities, such as decarbonisation solutions & other emerging technologies across a wide range of global maritime programmes.
Responsibilities- Apply & continue to develop a breadth of engineering skills in the discipline of Marine Engineering.
- Lead in the development of the Marine Engineer Function and provide support into resource planning and capability growth to support business needs.
- Lead the development of new business opportunities and generate technical scopes, risk registers and work breakdown structures.
- Lead engineering analyses, technical studies and research & development projects, making use of your knowledge and experience, to deliver high quality end to end solutions to our customers and clients.
- Provide mentoring support, guidance & leadership to aid with the development of our Marine Engineers to grow their technical & behavioural skills, knowledge & experience.
- Investigate and solve complex technical problems in concept, basic and detailed designs.
- Develop and maintain technical procedures, standards, processes, practices, guidelines, and standards.
- Interface directly with our customers and clients, representing our teams to discuss and deliver engineering solutions to complex problems.
- Degree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Marine Technology, Naval Engineering), or equivalent experience in the naval and commercial ship design, construction, or maintenance domain.
- Professional member of a relevant engineering institution (e.g., RINA, IMarEST, IMechE, IET).
- Recognised as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer by the UK Engineering Council (or actively working towards achieving accredited status).
- Experienced in at least one of the following key technical knowledge areas:
- Primary & secondary propulsion systems.
- Power generation & electrical distribution.
- Marine Structures (Main & Auxi, CAT A, B Seats)
- Auxiliary machinery and mechanical/fluid ship systems.
- P&ID Development / Checking
- Pipework/structural/electrical engineering calculations and analysis.
- Detailed design
- In-service through life support
- Vessel and system concept design
- A clear understanding of the role of a Marine Engineer throughout all stages of the design lifecycle (CADMID).
- An understanding of classification society rules, regulations and standards in the design, construction and in-service lifecycle phases.
- Experience of whole ship design including assessment of performance, design integration, construction, and through-life maintenance.
- Experience of working in multi-company and engineering discipline teams with an ability to communicate effectively.
- Experience in a technical consulting environment, leading and/or supporting multiple engineering projects & customers.
- A clear understanding of the role of a Marine Engineer throughout all stages of the design lifecycle (CADMID).
- An understanding of classification society rules, regulations and standards in the design, construction and in-service lifecycle phases.
- Experience of whole ship design including assessment of performance, design integration, construction, and through-life maintenance.

- Demonstrate an understanding of the decarbonisation challenges faced by the marine industry today and in the future (IMO regulations, Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS)).

- The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 10 years post-graduate experience (12 years for non-degree qualified) working in either the commercial or naval maritime domain.
