Expert Construction is currently seeking an experienced intermediate Health & Safety Advisor to support the health and safety function for our established Client for their significant Residential project in Belfast. As the Health & Safety Advisor, you will play a supporting role in establishing and managing the Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality function for our sites. You will ensure all company health and safety procedures are maintained to a high standard, working closely with the construction team including Site Managers and the SHEQ Manager. You will be supported by a Senior Health & Safety Manager.
Main duties / key responsibilities:
- Assist with the compilation and implementation of H&S procedures, policies and other documentation.
- Ensure the effective maintenance and improvement of the Integrated Management system in relation to the ISO 45001 & ISO 9001 (2015) standards and Safe T Certification.
- Conduct general Risk Assessments and Method Statements throughout all projects.
- Review and approve all Subcontractors Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
- Ability to negotiate with statutory authorities if required.
- Ability to negotiate with Subcontractors if required.
- Conduct workplace audits and report findings of non-compliance to Senior SHEQ Manager, Contracts Manager and Site Managers.
- Coordinate and accompany contractors on site visits.
- Visit sites to ensure that subcontractors are adhering to all H&S requirements.
- Promote a positive H&S culture within the Company and site portfolio whilst recommending new initiatives for continuous improvement.
- Undertake Visible Felt Leadership visits with Site Management team and Senior SHEQ Manager.
- Co-ordinate the availability of persons and facilities to ensure managers, supervisors and employees attend and complete identified H&S training in order to improve company performance as necessary.
- Identify improvement activities and training needs and give feedback of findings to Senior SHEQ Manager.
- Advise Site Supervisors on compliance and monitor all subcontractors and companies plant to ensure compliance.
- Assist the company in reviewing and implementing all the necessary RAMS documentation in line with their third party contract requirements.
- Carry out any other reasonable request made by your line manager to support site, departmental or company objectives.
As the Health & Safety Advisor, you will assist various departmental managers with HSE tasks to ensure company compliance for the site, ensuring managers are proactive and create a positive culture in accordance with the business aims. You will work with various teams to help develop line management capability and the implementation of good people management practices, providing advice and support on complex matters.
Essential Criteria:
- A NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate in Health & Safety.
- Experience gained in a similar role (minimum of 2 years).
- Knowledge of current Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation.
- A good working knowledge of Risk assessments, COSHH, RIDDOR and Display Screen Equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate significant experience of working within a construction environment (preferably Housebuilding).
- Capable of working with processes & procedures.
- Clear & concise communicator.
Desirable but not essential:
- NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate.
- NEBOSH Environmental Certificate or similar.
- NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Well-being at work.
- Experience with management systems; ISO14001 & ISO 9001 (2015).
