Expert are working in partnership with this leading North Antrim based Civil Engineering Contractor to recruit a Health & Safety Officer (all levels of SHEQ Officers will be considered, from Graduate through to Senior). This role will be Head office and Site based, with occasional travel to the UK. Managing and ensuring compliance with Safety, Health, Environment and Quality standards within the organisation.
Health, Safety, Environment and Quality led service delivery. No direct supervisory responsibilities. To work in conjunction with the Senior Team to maintain and advise on health and safety legislation through Company activities to promote and improve a positive health and safety culture and to promote continuous improvement in order to safeguard employees and the environment.
Essential criteria:
- A foundation degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or qualification in a subject that covers SHEQ legislation and practice ie NEBOSH or IOSH.
Desirable Criteria:
- Knowledge of Civil Engineering/Soil Stabilisation industry.
Work experience:
- A minimum of one years work experience in the area of SHEQ.
Skills:
- Attention to Detail: To thoroughly inspect work areas and identify potential hazards.
- Analytical Skills: To assess complex data, analyse risks, and develop effective safety solutions.
- Communication Skills: To clearly convey safety information to employees and management and negotiate effectively to promote safety, environmental and quality management systems.
- Timekeeping: An ability to work within project schedules and adhere to and meet strict deadlines.
- Organisation: Ability to effectively demonstrate excellent administrative and organisational skills.
- Initiative: The ability to use your initiative but competently perform as a team member.
- Full clean driving licence.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- To promote and work with managers in determining safe working practices, ensuring that all service areas have suitable and sufficient risk assessments for their operations and activities and effective risk control measures are in place.
- To maintain up to date knowledge of current and new legislative requirements, relating to health and safety issues, environmental and quality regulations in order to interpret, evaluate and advise management for service delivery.
- Undertake planned health and safety audits and workplace inspections as well as ad-hoc site visits and inspections of any company workplace, operation or activity to audit compliance with regulations and procedures.
- This shall include the provision of reports to highlight where risk assessments and technical input and remedial actions are required.
- Liaise closely with the Senior Team regarding matters of concern in connection with specialist risk assessments and training and support requirements.
- Communicate any necessary incidents with relevant legislative bodies ie HSE (NI).
- To assist in the preparation of Pre-Qualification Questionnaires and Quality Submissions with Senior Team.
- To coordinate quarterly Health and Safety Committee meetings internally and participate/deputise at external H&S meetings as required.
- To provide support, advise and facilitate training on employers and employees health and safety responsibilities, including induction, assorted Health and Safety awareness training and safety opportunities alongside environmental and quality considerations.
- Coordinate and administer programmes for Health Surveillance and Screening and liaise with Strategic Development Director on occupational health concerns.
- Monitor environmental performance, manage waste and ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulations, avoiding potential penalties and legal issues.
- All employees are expected to maintain a high standard of service delivery and to uphold the company’s policies in accordance with equality and diversity standards, and health and safety standards, and to participate in training activities necessary to their job.
