- Migrate from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA
- Decouple non-finance capabilities from SAP
- Enable full decommissioning of SAP ECC before 2030
This programme addresses a highly complex legacy environment where SAP ECC has become tightly coupled with multiple business processes and systems, creating a bottleneck for change and innovation. The Integration Architect will lead the design of a simplified, modular integration landscape that enables agility, reduces technical debt, and supports a modern, domain-driven architecture.
Key Objectives of the Role
- Design and govern integration architecture across:
- Legacy SAP ECC
- SAP S/4HANA (Finance core)
- Domain-driven business systems
- Enable the decoupling strategy by:
- Removing non-finance functionality from SAP
- Redirecting data flows to domain platforms or integration layers
- Reduce complexity by transitioning from:
- A highly coupled SAP-centric architecture
- To a modular, loosely coupled ecosystem
- Support delivery of:
- Integration Strategy
- Integration Architecture Design
- Interface Specifications & build oversight
What You'll Be Doing
Architecture & Design
- Define the target integration architecture aligned to S/4HANA as the finance system of record.
- Establish integration patterns (APIs, events, messaging) tailored to a decoupled landscape.
- Ensure adherence to programme guiding principles, including:
- Minimum Viable Integration.
- Standard first, exception by design.
Decoupling & Transformation
- Liaise with the other business transformation programmes that will need to create new integration designs for removing non-finance capabilities from SAP ECC.
- Redesign outbound and inbound interfaces:
- Repoint integrations to domain systems
- Reduce SAP's role as a central data distribution hub
- Support the move towards:
- Domain ownership of data
- Increased pace of change across business areas
Delivery & Governance
- Own or contribute to key artefacts:
- Integration Strategy
- Interface Specifications
- Non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, resilience)
- Work across delivery phases:
- Design ? Build ? Test ? Deploy (SAP Activate aligned)
- Provide technical oversight of:
- Integration build and test activities
- Vendor-led delivery (multi-partner model)
Collaboration & Stakeholders
- Work closely with:
- Enterprise Architecture teams across M&S Digital and Tech.
- SAP functional teams (Finance, PTP, OTC, etc.)
- Domain system teams (Supply Chain, Product, Pricing)
- Partner with system integrators and specialist vendors across the programme.
Candidate Profile
Experience
- Strong SAP integration experience across:
- SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA
- Demonstrated experience in large-scale transformation programmes.
- Experience designing integration solutions in complex, highly integrated environments.
Technical Skills
- Deep understanding of:
- Enterprise integration patterns (API, event-driven, messaging)
- Interface-based integration (IDocs, services, batch, etc.)
- Data flow and system decoupling strategies
- Experience working with:
- Multi-system landscapes (ERP + domain systems)
- Integration platforms and middleware.
Architecture & Design Capability
- Proven ability to:
- Design scalable, modular integration architectures
- Simplify complex estates and reduce dependencies
- Familiarity with:
- Domain-driven / service-based architectures.
Soft Skills
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
- Ability to operate in multi-vendor, matrix environments.
- Commercially aware, outcome-driven decision making.
Why Join This Programme?
- Work on a business-critical transformation with a clear deadline (ECC decommissioning before 2030).
- Help reshape a landscape currently constrained by:
- High complexity
- Slow change cycles due to SAP dependency
- Deliver tangible outcomes such as:
- Reduced technical debt
