We're hiring a Lead Database Administrator for a public sector subsidiary delivering critical services. This is a senior, hands-on position with end-to-end ownership of a complex database estate, spanning on-premises and cloud platforms. You will act as the technical authority for database strategy, standards, and design, ensuring systems are secure, resilient, and optimised for performance.
Operating in a high-availability, SLA-driven environment, you'll play a key role in supporting business-critical systems while influencing architectural decisions and driving continuous improvement across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities- Own and lead the administration of database environments across development, test, and production.
- Act as the technical authority for database design, standards, and best practice, influencing decisions across engineering and delivery teams.
- Diagnose and resolve complex, high-impact performance and availability issues affecting critical systems.
- Design and implement robust high availability, backup, recovery, and replication strategies.
- Provide leadership on database architecture within projects, ensuring secure, scalable, and cost-effective solutions.
- Manage database security, access controls, and compliance with organisational and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams, senior stakeholders, and external suppliers (e.g. Microsoft, Oracle) to deliver and support services.
- Support and contribute to cloud-based database platforms (Azure/AWS) and ongoing modernisation initiatives.
