Role: Inventory & Asset Control Manager

Length: 3 to 6 months

Location: Solihull

Rate: Β£420 to Β£510 per day via umbrella

Sits within the new Business Supply Chain function and owns inventory governance across locations, systems and partners. The role establishes a trusted inventory baseline, improves stock integrity and leads asset recovery and obsolescence activity, protecting cash, reducing write-off risk and strengthening audit compliance.

Role Accountability's

  • Establish and maintain an agreed inventory baseline across systems, warehouses and other holding points.
  • Define controls for stock movements, adjustments, reconciliations and cycle counting.
  • Lead discrepancy investigations and ensure root causes and corrective actions are addressed.
  • Create and manage a recovery pipeline for stranded, returned and reusable assets.
  • Prioritise reuse and redeployment before new purchase.
  • Segment aged inventory and coordinate reuse, resale, refurbishment, recycling or write-off.
  • Improve return and RMA controls with teams, suppliers and logistics partners.
  • Maintain evidence supporting audit, financial control, security and environmental requirements.

Key decisions you will own

  • Set inventory control, reconciliation and evidence requirements.
  • Prioritise inventory investigations, recovery and obsolescence actions according to value and risk.
  • Recommend stock treatment, provisioning and write-off actions through governance.
  • Decide when recovered or surplus stock should be redeployed to meet demand.

What success looks like

  • An agreed inventory baseline and clear ownership are in place.
  • Inventory accuracy and control evidence improve, with material discrepancies addressed.
  • Recovered and surplus assets are routinely reused before new purchase.
  • Obsolescence, write-off, audit and compliance exposure is reduced and reported clearly.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Significant inventory control, asset management or supply chain operations experience.
  • Knowledge of stock reconciliation, controls, audit evidence and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience of returns, recovery, refurbishment or obsolescence.
  • Financial understanding of inventory valuation, provisioning and working capital.
  • Ability to work with complex data and coordinate Finance, Digital, operations and partners.

Desirable

  • Experience restoring an inventory baseline.
  • Knowledge of technology asset lifecycles or stock-related audit improvement.
  • Knowledge of field engineer, install and break-fix asset lifecycles.
