Role purpose / summary
Maintain and update the legislation register for applicable UK legal/regulatory requirements (using agreed tools e.g., Lexis Library/SIMPLIFi). Produce the annual Legislation Compliance Report, including review/update cycle and environmental considerations. Complete up to three areas-of-concern deep dives per year and integrate findings/recommendations. Provide SME advice on compliance queries; assess impacts and support closure of actions. Support governance meetings. Maintain audit trail/records, follow QMS and agreed communication routes (technical via Technical Contact; commercial via Commercial Contact); support briefings/knowledge transfer as required.
Key deliverables
- Legislation register maintained and evidenced throughout the assignment.
- Annual Legislation Compliance Report (date agreed), including environmental considerations and up to three areas-of-concern reviews.
- Brief progress updates for governance; meeting inputs/actions support (ALCOM/Shore support) as required.
- Training/briefing materials and contribution to lessons learned/PTE as needed.
Stakeholders and interfaces
- Technical Contact: Technical communications, priorities and progress reporting.
- Commercial Contact: Commercial/contract correspondence.
- Governance forums & stakeholders: ALCOM/Shore support meetings; site contacts; MoD and policy/process owners; safety/environment SMEs; engineering/assurance functions.
Essential criteria
- Proven experience delivering legislation registers and compliance reporting in a safety-critical, highly regulated environment.
- SQEP equivalent to Senior Safety & Reliability Engineer; strong working knowledge of relevant UK HSE/environment/engineering regulatory frameworks.
- Able to interpret legislation, assess impact, produce evidence-based reports/recommendations, and manage stakeholders with minimal supervision.
- Strong MS Office skills; comfortable maintaining registers/evidence packs.
Desirable criteria
- CEng/IEng (or relevant degree) and professional membership (e.g., IOSH/IET/BCS).
- Defence maritime/submarine support experience; familiarity with MoD interfaces/governance.
- Experience with Lexis Library, SIMPLIFi (or similar) and reviewing ALARP-based safety/environment documentation.
