An MoD government agency is seeking a Risk Officer to support the Business Assurance team—helping provide confidence that the organisation’s governance and risk management processes are effective, embedded, and fit for purpose. This is a varied role combining risk register management, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and administration across risk and assurance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update strategic/corporate risk registers (at least quarterly), aligning to corporate and business plans
  • Facilitate risk workshops to review existing risks and capture new ones
  • Produce and coordinate monthly/quarterly risk reporting for senior leadership and assurance committees (including deep-dive papers where required)
  • Improve and maintain risk dashboards, portals and SharePoint sites to drive engagement and oversight
  • Support the review and update of risk policies, processes and templates in line with government risk guidance (e.g., The Orange Book)
  • Act as a risk focal support point for a directorate and help mentor risk focal points across the organisation
  • Provide team admin support: meeting coordination, schedules/plans, assurance mapping, tracking mitigations/actions

Required experience / skills

  • Enterprise Risk Management qualification (e.g., IRMCert) and/or strong, demonstrable 3–5+ years ERM experience
  • Strong stakeholder management—comfortable engaging with senior leadership
  • Strong written skills: clear, structured reporting and committee-ready outputs
  • Confident working with data, dashboards, and collaboration tools (MS Office, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Organised, proactive, able to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a sensitive environment and meet government security requirements (vetting/eligibility)
