We're looking for a skilled and motivated Acoustic / DSP Engineer to join our engineering team. This is a specialist role focused on acoustic modelling, signal processing, and supporting the development of cutting-edge underwater systems. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team, contributing across test, analysis, modelling, and capability development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain acoustic models, initially using PAFEC software with the goal of progressing to VaOne Vibroacoustic modelling tools.
  • Carry out technical reporting (both written and verbal) to clearly communicate complex analyses and ensure traceability of test and modelling activities.
  • Process and interpret large experimental datasets using signal processing techniques, ideally with experience in MATLAB's Signal Processing Toolbox.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams and industry partners to design and conduct acoustic measurements in support of product development and validation.
  • Track and report on technical progress and task budgets when acting as group lead on projects.
  • Help maintain and grow the group's technical infrastructure, supporting long-term capability development.
  • Build subject matter expertise in underwater acoustics and DSP through mentorship from internal experts, with the aim of becoming a recognised specialist.
  • Support cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders to develop and deliver a sustainable, forward-looking Test & Evaluation (T&E) capability combining real-world data and modelling.
  • Establish strong working relationships with internal site managers to facilitate technical testing and analysis activities.

Skills and Experience

We're looking for someone who brings a combination of technical expertise, innovation, and collaborative mindset:

  • Required:
  • Strong background in acoustics, signal processing, or a related field.
  • Experience in technical modelling and/or measurement in underwater or similar domains.
  • Understanding of signal processing techniques and data analysis.
  • Confident communicator able to engage with both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experience in delivering projects and developing technical capability.
  • Familiarity with MOD security procedures (or willingness to obtain clearance).
  • A proactive, innovative approach to solving problems and improving processes.
  • Desirable Software Knowledge:
  • MatLab (especially Signal Processing Toolbox)
  • Python
  • LabView

Candidates will need to be a sole British national, and ideally have SC Clearance - lapsed clearance is also fine.
