Principal RF Engineer - Ability to obtain SC

Are you an experienced RF Engineer looking to take ownership of complex RF and microwave system development whilst influencing the next generation of advanced technologies?

We are seeking a Principal RF Engineer to join a growing engineering team developing highly sophisticated RF systems and products. This is an opportunity to play a leading role in technical decision-making, mentor engineers, and contribute to cutting‑edge programmes within a collaborative and innovation‑driven environment.

The Role

As a Principal RF Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, simulation and testing of RF and microwave systems, supporting projects from concept through to deployment.

You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams while providing technical leadership across RF architectures, transmit and receive chains, antennas, and system performance optimisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of RF and microwave systems.
  • Develop transmit and receive chain architectures.
  • Design, analyse and optimise RF front‑end circuitry.
  • Support antenna design, integration and performance assessment.
  • Perform RF modelling, simulation and system analysis.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide technical leadership across projects.
  • Support system integration, verification and RF testing activities.
  • Mentor and develop junior RF engineers.
  • Work closely with systems, electronics and software teams to deliver high‑performance solutions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong RF and microwave design experience across complex systems.
  • Expertise in transmitter and receiver architectures.
  • Knowledge of antenna design, RF propagation and front‑end design.
  • Experience using RF simulation and modelling tools such as HFSS, CST, ADS or equivalent.
  • Hands‑on experience with RF test equipment including:
  • Spectrum analysers
  • Vector Network Analysers (VNAs)
  • Signal generators
  • Strong understanding of RF testing, validation and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and design reviews.
  • Previous experience mentoring or leading engineers.
  • Electronic Warfare (EW)
  • ECM / ECCM
  • Counter‑UAS / Counter‑Drone technologies
  • RF sensing or RF jamming systems
  • Radar or defence‑related RF applications
