An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Application Engineer to join a core Investment Systems team within a leading Financial Services organisation.

This is a hands-on engineering role supporting a portfolio of critical front and back-office investment applications that underpin daily business operations. You'll be responsible for maintaining highly available, resilient and secure services whilst driving continuous improvement across core investment platforms.

The role offers the opportunity to work closely with business stakeholders, technology teams and third-party suppliers, ensuring key applications continue to meet both operational and regulatory requirements.

We're particularly interested in candidates with experience supporting applications within Wealth Management, Investment Management, Asset Management or Private Banking environments. However, strong application engineers from the wider Financial Services sector will also be considered.

The Role

As an Application Engineer, you'll take ownership of a range of business-critical investment applications, ensuring the ongoing stability, support and enhancement of services that are fundamental to daily operations.

You'll play a key role in incident resolution, problem management, platform upgrades, service transition activities and business change initiatives, whilst helping to improve operational resilience through automation, monitoring and continuous service improvement.

This position would suit someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working with large data sets and collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for a portfolio of critical investment and operational applications.
  • Monitor application performance, availability and service health.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across production environments.
  • Act as a technical owner and subject matter expert for designated platforms.
  • Ensure applications remain secure, stable and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Support operational readiness and ongoing service resilience.

Incident, Problem & Change Management

  • Manage incidents through to successful resolution.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures.
  • Support major incident investigations and service recovery activities.
  • Participate in change, release and deployment processes.
  • Ensure all changes are implemented in line with governance and risk controls.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and reduce operational overhead.
  • Enhance monitoring, alerting and support tooling.
  • Drive service improvements focused on reliability, availability and performance.
  • Support operational resilience and disaster recovery initiatives.Contribute to the development of support standards, procedures and documentation.

Projects & Technology Change

  • Support platform upgrades, migrations and application enhancements.
  • Contribute to project delivery and service transition activities.
  • Work closely with development teams and suppliers to introduce new capabilities into production environments.
  • Provide operational input into technology and business change initiatives.
  • Build strong working relationships across business and technology teams.
  • Work closely with third-party vendors and managed service providers.
  • Communicate technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide regular updates on incidents, risks and improvement initiatives.
  • Strong application support and engineering experience within Financial Services or another complex, highly regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting business-critical applications in production environments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic and root cause analysis skills.
  • Strong understanding of Incident, Problem, Change and Release Management processes.
  • Experience working with application integrations and interfaces.
  • Strong SQL skills and the ability to analyse and investigate data.
  • Experience supporting batch processing and scheduling technologies.
  • Familiarity with application monitoring and observability tools.
  • Experience working with third-party vendors and technology suppliers.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and business stakeholders.
  • Proactive approach to service improvement, resilience and automation.
