Embedded Software Engineer (C++/Embedded Linux)
Permanent role, Office Based in High Wycombe, salary £40000 - £60000 DOE
Are you an Embedded Software Engineer who has actually developed embedded products from the ground up?
We're working with an established technology business seeking a Software Engineer to join their growing development team. This is a genuinely embedded role, and we're specifically looking for engineers with hands‑on firmware/software development experience rather than general software developers whose primary exposure to C/C++ has been outside of an embedded environment.
You'll be developing next-generation network and cable test equipment, working on Linux-based embedded systems, touchscreen user interfaces, and cloud-connected products used by customers worldwide.
What we're looking for
Essential:
- Strong commercial C/C++ development experience
- Proven embedded software/firmware development background
- Linux / Embedded Linux development experience
- Experience working close to hardware
- Product development experience within an engineering environment
Highly desirable:
- Qt, Qt Quick and/or QML
- Networking knowledge including Ethernet/IP, Wi-Fi, VLAN, ARP, LLDP and SNMP
- Experience within networking, communications, test & measurement, or electronic products
- Experience using AI tools to improve development workflows, testing, debugging, documentation and software delivery
Additional desirable skills
Whilst there is exposure to cloud technologies and modern software practices, these are secondary to the core requirement for embedded expertise:
- Python
- Microsoft Azure / Cloud Services
- CI/CD
- Machine Learning
About You
We're looking for approximately 3+ years of relevant experience, although we're far more interested in the quality and relevance of your embedded development experience than the exact number of years on your CV.
If you're passionate about embedded systems, enjoy solving problems close to the hardware, and want to work on innovative connected products, we'd love to hear from you.
