We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux Engineer to join a specialist team responsible for delivering both Managed Service and Project-based activities.
This is a senior technical role supporting a complex Linux estate across live production, development, and test environments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing support, administration, and maintenance of SUSE and Red Hat Linux Servers, covering both physical and virtual infrastructure.
In addition to operational support, the role will involve significant involvement in migration and transformation projects, including some out-of-hours activities where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support, administration, and maintenance for Linux server environments.
- Manage and support both SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
- Deliver operational support across live, development, and test environments.
- Perform incident resolution, problem management, and root cause analysis.
- Implement, test, and deploy infrastructure changes in accordance with change management processes.
- Support infrastructure migration and transformation programmes.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance UNIX/Linux Shell Scripts to automate operational tasks.
- Work closely with project teams to deliver infrastructure improvements and technical solutions.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and security across the Linux estate.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and support guides.
- Participate in out-of-hours maintenance and project activities when required.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive hands-on experience administering Linux operating systems, particularly SUSE and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- Strong experience supporting enterprise-scale Linux server environments.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain high-quality UNIX Shell Scripts.
- Experience troubleshooting and supporting complex multi-platform UNIX/Linux infrastructures.
- Strong understanding of Linux server performance tuning, patching, and system maintenance.
- Experience working within managed service and operational support environments.
