This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced finance leader to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a major local authority and the communities it serves. As part of this evolution, they are seeking a proactive, collaborative, and technically strong Head of Finance (Technical) to lead a critical function and ensure robust financial governance during a period of major transformation.
The Role:
- Leading statutory accounting, treasury management, taxation, and financial compliance.
- Acting as a principal Financial Advisor to senior leadership, committees, and decision makers.
- Overseeing year end processes, closure of accounts, and production of the Statement of Accounts.
- Managing and developing the Finance Manager and wider Technical, Treasury, Insurance, Income, and Payments teams.
- Identifying opportunities for innovation, improved compliance, and risk mitigation.
- Maintaining expert knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and best practice.
About You
We are looking for a qualified finance professional (CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) who brings:
- Strong leadership and people management capability.
- A proven track record of delivering high quality financial services in a complex environment.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders.
- A proactive, solutions focused mindset with the ability to drive innovation.
- High levels of organisation, adaptability, and resilience in a changing landscape.
- Experience within local government or the wider public sector is highly advantageous.
