Location: NW London

Working arrangement: Hybrid, typically 3 days on-site and 2 days from home

Opportunity

We are looking for a Test Automation Engineer to join a growing team working on projects within the UK defence and national security sector.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in software testing and assurance, with the chance to contribute to meaningful technical projects in a secure environment.

We are open to candidates at different stages of their careers, from junior engineers looking to build on their existing technical foundations through to more experienced professionals with established automation skills.

Working alongside software developers and test analysts, you will help design and develop automated test scripts, investigate software issues and contribute to improving the quality and reliability of software systems.

With dedicated training, ongoing professional development and opportunities for career progression, this role offers an environment in which you can continue to build your technical expertise.

Due to the nature of the work, candidates must hold valid Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance at the time of application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain automated test scripts.
  • Apply established test automation practices and guidelines.
  • Investigate software issues, analyse test results and help identify potential solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with software developers and test analysts to improve software quality.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of test processes and automation approaches.
  • Keep up to date with relevant tools, technologies and industry developments.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities.
  • Attend occasional customer meetings, team events and training sessions, including travel within the UK and potentially overseas.

Skills and Experience

We are interested in candidates who can demonstrate a genuine interest in software testing, automation and problem-solving.

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • Experience in software testing, test automation or a related technical discipline.
  • Knowledge of at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python, PowerShell, C# or Java.
  • An analytical approach to investigating technical issues and identifying solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with technical colleagues and communicate findings clearly.
  • A willingness to learn, develop new skills and take on increasing responsibility.

A degree in Computer Science, Software Development or a related discipline, or an ISTQB qualification, is desirable to the role. Practical experience and a strong technical foundation will also be important considerations.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive salary: £50,000-£75,000, depending on experience.
  • Hybrid working: Typically three days on-site and two days working from home.
  • Annual leave: 25 days, plus bank holidays.
  • Healthcare: AXA healthcare coverage.
  • Career development: Dedicated training, a professional development budget and opportunities for progression.
  • Financial benefits: Company pension contributions.
  • Additional benefits: Cycle to Work scheme and an electric vehicle car scheme.

Interested?

If you're looking to develop your career in software test automation and want to contribute to projects within the UK defence and national security sector, we'd be keen to hear from you.

Please note: Active DV security clearance is essential for this position. Candidates without valid DV clearance at the time of application cannot be considered.
