Introduction to Team: Vrbo, a global leader in vacation rentals and part of the Expedia Group, is seeking a Data Scientist II, VR Supply Analytics to join our Vacation Rentals Analytics team. This role is critical to influencing strategic decision-making across global supply-side operations. You’ll be at the intersection of data, business strategy, and leadership — driving insights that have direct and measurable business impact.
Make an Impact: We’re looking for someone who is highly analytical, self-directed, and proactive — someone who thrives in ambiguity, is driven to get answers, and can tell compelling stories with data. Ideally, you’ll bring SQL expertise, a working knowledge (or willingness to quickly learn) Tableau, and a passion for the travel industry.
In this role, you will:
- Own and lead analysis for multiple OKRs (Objectives & Key Results) that directly impact business growth.
- Deep dive into data to uncover drivers of performance, develop recommendations, and communicate findings clearly to senior leadership.
- Present bi-weekly insights and progress to leadership teams, including metric deep dives and strategic suggestions.
- Be a self-starter who actively seeks data, connects with stakeholders across Slack or meetings, and fills in gaps without needing hand-holding.
- Frame ambiguous business questions into structured analytical problems and actionable insights.
- Independently extract, manipulate, and analyze data from multiple sources using SQL and/or other tools.
- Learn and apply Tableau to build impactful dashboards and visualizations (if not already experienced).
- Apply statistical methods such as regression, clustering, time series forecasting, etc., where applicable.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with strategy, marketing, product, and engineering teams.
- Stay current with industry trends, especially in travel, hospitality, or marketplace dynamics.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in a technical or quantitative field (e.g., Engineering, Statistics, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or similar).
- Strong SQL skills are essential — you should be comfortable writing complex queries and working with large-scale data.
- Familiar with Tableau (or quick to learn) and comfortable building data visualizations.
- Strong analytical toolkit: statistical methods, scenario modeling, A/B testing, or predictive modeling experience.
- Business-savvy and interested in learning or expanding knowledge in the travel or vacation rental space.
- Demonstrated experience working independently and driving analyses from ideation to executive presentation.
- Excellent communication skills — able to translate technical details into business language.
- Self-motivated, curious, and unafraid to ask questions or dig deep to find answers.
- Comfortable with Python, R, or similar languages for deeper analysis (preferred but not required).
Bonus Points:
- Experience working in the travel, hospitality, or marketplace space.
- Previous OKR ownership or strategic metric accountability.
- Proven track record of delivering insights that influenced executive decisions.
