The Analytics Products (Engineering) team at Expedia Group is responsible for providing clarity and ease of understanding of insights across a complex, global travel business. We work with multiple teams across Expedia Group, understanding where our customers come from, their experiences, and partnering with Product, Finance, Marketing, and Analytics to turn data into decisions. We believe that visualisation is more than creating charts and dashboards. We are building analytics products and insight platforms that bring data together across our brands, enabling a deep understanding of performance and powering experimentation, forecasting, and optimisation in an AI‑first world.

A Data Visualisation Engineer is equally passionate about software development, data quality and availability, and creating a great user experience (UX) through clean and effective user interfaces (UI). As well as building analytics and data visualisation applications, we are increasingly using generative AI to surface patterns, summarise insights, and provide natural‑language interfaces to data. As a key member of the Analytics Products team, the Data Visualisation Engineer II will play a pivotal role in building and evolving analytics products, ensuring our partners can turn data into insights quickly and safely, and use those insights to drive business decisions and strategy.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Design, develop and ship analytics products and visualisation applications that improve the insight and analytical capabilities of the group, from exploratory analysis tools to high‑level leadership reporting.
  • Build user‑facing interfaces and self‑service experiences (dashboards, analytical apps, and conversational or natural‑language interfaces) that give people access to advanced analytical and AI‑powered insights.
  • Partner with Analytics to integrate models and advanced analysis (experimentation, uplift, forecasting, recommendations, anomaly detection) into intuitive products that non‑technical users can trust and act on.
  • Leverage AI platform capabilities and connectors, including MCP tools and other AI integrations, to automate routine analytical tasks, enrich visualisations, and accelerate insight delivery.
  • Bring efficiencies and innovation to everything we do, from personalised insights discovery to new ways of visualising complex data and uncertainty.
  • Partner with key teams in implementing a design thinking framework for each new product we build, from discovery and user research through to prototyping and iterative delivery.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure robust data models, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data quality checks, and help define metrics, KPIs and event instrumentation.
  • Contribute to our shared visualisation and analytics product platform by building reusable components, templates and documentation.
  • Work end‑to‑end across the stack, from data access and transformation through to visualisation and interaction, bringing modern software engineering practices (version control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD) to data visualisation and analytics products.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Professional experience as a data visualisation engineer, BI developer, analytics engineer, or similar role delivering production‑grade dashboards, reports, or visual analytics solutions.
  • Hands‑on experience with at least one modern data visualisation or BI platform (e.g. Tableau) and associated query languages, working with large or complex datasets sourced from multiple systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement data models and write efficient queries that meet defined SLAs for visualisation use cases within a specific product, service, or domain scope, collaborating with engineers, analysts, and business partners to deliver reliable solutions.
  • Experience designing and operating visualisation solutions at scale, including performance tuning, dashboard standardisation, security, and governance of shared semantic layers across multiple domains.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to lead end‑to‑end visualisation solution design, including data modelling, API integration, and low‑level design for reporting and analytics components in a complex data ecosystem.
  • Track record of driving operational excellence for BI and visualisation platforms, including monitoring, alerting, automated testing, CI/CD for BI assets, and robust documentation practices.
  • Strong experience applying data storytelling, metric frameworks, and experimentation techniques (e.g., A/B testing) to influence product or business decisions through visualisation outputs.
  • Familiarity with AI‑driven analytics or insight generation tools, and experience safely integrating or extending AI/ML‑enabled visualisation or decision‑support solutions to enhance data exploration, personalisation, and decision quality.
  • Understand how wireframing and prototyping work in tools such as Figma, and appreciate the benefits of using them when building analytics and visualisation products.
