We are seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to join one of our clients in Oxfordshire. The business is a well-funded advanced technology company designing and manufacturing highly complex equipment for the semiconductor industry.

Key responsibilities

  • Leading the mechanical engineering team through coaching, mentoring and developing people via regular feedback and performance reviews
  • Providing technical leadership to ensure high-quality mechanical design, engineering standards and successful project delivery
  • Working closely with senior leaders to shape the company's mechanical engineering strategy, introducing the tools, processes and resources needed to support future growth
  • Driving continuous improvement across products, engineering processes, design tools and team capability
  • Collaborating with systems architects, project leaders and multidisciplinary engineering teams to translate requirements into robust mechanical solutions
  • Managing internal stakeholders and external engineering partners to ensure projects are delivered on time and to a high standard

Experience we are seeking

  • Previous people management experience within a mechanical engineering environment
  • Strong mechanical design background with extensive experience using SolidWorks and EPDM/PDM
  • Experience applying FEA, Design for Manufacture (DFM) and GD&T to precision mechanical systems
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management, including requirements capture, design reviews, engineering change control and revision management
  • Experience using CAD to drive BOM structures, documentation and engineering release processes
  • A practical, collaborative approach to engineering leadership and problem solving
  • Comfortable working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, partnering with electronics, optics, systems and manufacturing teams
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or a related engineering discipline)
