About the role

Working as part of the Inverness operations team, you will support safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the Petroleum Supply Depot (PSD), pipelines, and associated facilities. This role involves controlling plant operations, handling fuel movements, supporting maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. The position will initially operate on core hours, moving into a 24-hour shift pattern, with participation in an on-call rota.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake the day-to-day planned operations and other tasks including the setting up of pumping routes, safely receiving, delivery and inter-site movement of product with site route cards.
  • Approved Inspector of Fuel Quality, including the integrity of Product and Additive Quality, Stock Control of Fuel and Additives, including Tank dipping, temperature correction, batch records, month-end accounting.
  • Use computer terminals and systems efficiently (SCADA, ABB etc).
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping ensuring that all facilities, plant and equipment remain in working order.
  • Responsibilities in Emergency Preparedness.
  • Liaise with SCADA control to facilitate the efficient and safe operation of the depot, pipelines and associated sites.
  • Issue Permits to Work to colleagues and contractors carrying out work on EXOLUM-PS facilities, and monitor their compliance.
  • Carry out pre-planned proof checks on equipment and systems.
  • Assist maintenance colleagues as and when required.
  • Report any defects, hazards, near misses, issues, as soon as practicable.
  • Participate in the duty standby rota, and attend callouts.
  • Undertake planned activities monitoring/maintaining pipeline wayleave, including vegetation control, pipeline furniture, husbandry, minor mechanical maintenance.
  • Carry out visits to 3rd party work, including the planning and performance of the work.
  • Compiling and issuing report for infringements, line walks, site visits etc.
  • Reporting on the findings from the regular Aerial Patrols. Out of hours On Call rota also for this duty.

About You

The ideal candidate will have GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English, along with a full driving licence and experience working within a regulated or safety-critical industry. You will be capable of working both independently and as part of a team, with strong attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures accurately. Strong communication skills and the ability to prioritise workload are essential, along with a proactive and safety-focused mindset. You should be comfortable responding to operational challenges, able to remain calm under pressure, and react quickly to problems. Experience in fuel handling, pipeline operations, or hazardous environments, as well as knowledge of COMAH or COSHH regulations, would be advantageous.
