About the role
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Technician to join our Maintenance team. This role is responsible for carrying out day-to-day electrical maintenance, inspection, testing and repairs across the Pipeline System while supporting the safe, reliable operation of our electrical infrastructure. You will work closely with technical teams, site supervisors and operational colleagues to resolve equipment defects, respond to maintenance alerts and ensure that all electrical systems remain compliant, efficient and aligned with company and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Be familiar with the site QA System and its related procedures and systems of work.
- Follow specific job task instructions as issued by the Maintenance Manager directly or via a more senior engineering grade Technician and via the Engineering Administrator.
- Be conversant with the electrical isolation procedure and to carry out isolations in line with the procedure.
- Carry out routine electrical maintenance inspection and testing work in accordance with the maintenance schedules set out in the terminals CMMS through group policy and site procedures.
- On own or in conjunction with other support, overhaul electrical equipment utilising OEM manuals and general arrangements, replacing seals and components to restore to serviceable status for spares and replacements.
- Respond to breakdown failures on electrical equipment where there is sufficient familiarity and understanding.
- Ensure that good housekeeping standards are maintained during and on completion of repair/modification work to comply with Terminal Safety Regulations.
- Carry out general stock taking to assist in the availability of spare parts and replenishable goods.
- Liaising with the Maintenance Manager and Engineering Administrator to replenish or order stock and non-stock items.
- Liaise with the Maintenance Manager and operations about hand-over requirements for mechanical works where they are intrusive to operational processes.
- Ensure that work orders are signed off on completion, detailing what work has taken place and record parts used through the CMMS.
- Ensure that any remedial actions resulting from work activities (inspections, PPM’s, or breakdowns) are suitably raised to the maintenance engineer.
- Carry out alarm tests to buildings for manned and unmanned premises.
- Liaise and work with the Boiler technician operative for annual inspection and service of electrical boiler equipment.
- Read and understand drawings and manufacturers literature to assist fault finding and repair of unfamiliar electrical equipment.
- Carry out recalibration of instruments such as but not limited to pressure, level and flow measurement and control.
- Oversee work being carried out by electrical contractors.
- Carry out visual, close and detailed inspection to BS60079 and BS7671.
- Carry out electrical repairs to non-hazardous equipment on site and in offices and buildings.
- Read and understand line identification and equipment from P&ID’s.
- Read electrical loop drawings for equipment circuit identification.
- Read panel drawings for fault diagnostics on equipment drives.
- Read and understand PFD’s used for system design.
- Support fault finding, repairs and modifications to the tank gauging systems through VTW, Scada and annunciator system for radio broadcasting.
- Undertake training for apprentices and lower grade technicians to upskill.
- Carry out mechanical compex inspections based on explosive atmosphere zonal areas based on the hazardous area drawing.
- Able to raise hand over documentation identifying safe means of process and electrical isolation in conjunction with operations.
- Read risk assessment and method statements to raise suitable permit to work documentation for mechanical contractors.
- To raise work to Contractors where it is necessary, update permit lists and to control the work thereafter.
- Able to train apprentices, Junior technicians and technicians to achieve incremental grade increases based on their job roles.
- To use CMMS at administrator level to add and remove equipment, relocate items within PPM’s, Restructure PPM’s, create PPM’s and job instructions, add and update inventory items.
- Carry out engineering task-based audits on the mechanical team to ensure that they are carrying inspection and maintenance tasks to a satisfactory standard.
- Assist in creating formal procedures against overarching policies that would form part of the QA system outside of the CMMS.
- Liaise with suppliers and contract companies in order to raise Purchase Orders for electrical equipment in-line with requirements on the Terminal, adhering to budgetary requirements.
About You
You will be a qualified and experienced Electrical Technician with a recognised, time-served apprenticeship and technical certifications including CompEx, 2394/2395 and 17th Edition/BS7671. You will have hands-on experience within a petrochemical or process-industry environment, with the ability to work safely under permit systems, follow site rules and read technical drawings and engineering documents confidently. You will be a strong communicator who can collaborate across teams, while also demonstrating the ability to manage your own workload independently. A proactive, positive approach, willingness to take ownership of tasks and a commitment to high safety standards are essential. You will also be computer-literate, physically fit for the role and hold a clean driving licence. Desirable attributes include additional CompEx modules (EX01–04), CCNSG, HV Authorised Person status, ATG or Rotork experience, COMAH awareness, confined space training, first aid capability and broader mechanical skills.
