Summary of the role: The Business Analyst (BA) plays a key role in delivering solutions for EXL’s insurance clients. The role involves working closely with business and technical stakeholders to gather, analyse and translate business requirements into effective data and process solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong insurance vertical expertise (P&C, Commercial or Personal Lines) including policies, claims, premiums, combined with experience in complex SQL queries and extracting analysing data. This is a business-facing role requiring the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.
As part of your duties, you will be responsible for:
- Requirements & Analysis: Design, build, and optimise SQL queries to extract, analyse, and validate insurance data from multiple source systems.
- Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering: Work with business users and product owners to gather, analyse, and document requirements. Conduct stakeholder interviews, requirement workshops and walkthroughs. Translate business needs into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications. Prepare and maintain BRDs, FSDs, User Stories & Acceptance Criteria, Process Flows/BPMN diagrams, and Use Case Documents. Maintain version control and structured documentation in Confluence.
- Project & Stakeholder Management: Work with cross-functional teams (Dev, QA, Architecture, Product). Participate in backlog grooming, sprint planning, UAT support, and defect triage. Ensure end-to-end requirement traceability in Jira. Communicate risks, dependencies, and impacts proactively.
Domain Knowledge (Good to Have): Understanding of insurance processes—policy issuance, endorsements, renewals, claims, underwriting. Familiarity with insurance platforms (Guidewire, Duck Creek) is a plus.
5-8 years of experience as a Business Analyst / Technical BA. Strong experience with Jira, Confluence, API understanding, and Postman. Ability to create detailed process flows, wireframes, and technical documentation. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Good understanding of SDLC & Agile methodologies. Good SQL knowledge. Good to have: Knowledge on Senator/ Subscribe/Acumen (any of them) would be an added advantage with Insurance domain knowledge.
