A leading banking organisation is looking for a Senior Payroll Director to lead the existing team after a period of strong growth across EMEA and APAC. This role will be wide-ranging and focused on the timely delivery of payroll solutions to a complex and global business. It also offers a significant opportunity to impact the way the business operates, with empowerment to implement process changes. Based in London (City), the role holder will be expected to be in the office 3 days a week, with some flexibility if required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee payroll teams across EMEA & APAC nearshore locations.
- Design and implement internal controls to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately, timely, and in compliance with international country and regional laws and regulations, supported by sufficient documentation.
- Oversee full-cycle Payroll and HR Operations processing for 21 countries in EMEA and APAC.
- Recruit and develop top talent who will be subject matter experts and points of contact for payroll inquiries.
- Engage and influence standards for practices and procedures of financial controls related to payroll activities.
- Review and develop control documentation for end-to-end payroll processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve operating procedures in line with regulatory and compliance guidelines to support audits.
- Determine strategies to minimise legal risks and impact on operations.
- Coach teams towards organisational objectives.
- Collaborate and influence professionals at all levels, including senior managers.
- Lead the team to achieve business objectives.
- Interact with internal and external customers.
- Manage resource allocation for payroll functions.
- Develop a culture of talent development aligned with business strategy.
- Manage a team of 10-15 FTE.
Required Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in International Payroll.
- Management or leadership experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Many years of end-to-end experience in international Payroll, Payroll Tax, HR Operations, and audit.
- Experience with Workday Payroll, ServiceNow, ADP Global View Payroll, and CloudPay Payroll.
- Ability to motivate staff, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to build effective working relationships quickly.
- Excellent presentation, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage complex projects in a large enterprise environment.
- Outstanding problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong change management skills, technological proficiency, systems thinking, and quality orientation.

- Qualified Accountant (CPA/ACA or equivalent) is preferred but not mandatory.
