Overview
Exeter School is the leading co-educational day school in the Southwest, educating over 1,000 pupils aged 3-18. We are looking to appoint a permanent Administrator to join the small but friendly HR team at our school, to start immediately.
This position plays a key role in supporting the employee lifecycle, with a particular focus on safer recruitment and safeguarding compliance for staff, volunteers and some contractors. This includes administering the recruitment process from advertising through to induction, ensuring all pre-employment checks are completed, and maintaining accurate records in line with statutory requirements and school policies. They will also provide administrative support under the direction of the Head of HR, for staff induction, safeguarding training, and the maintenance of the school’s Single Central Register. They will be key in supporting the tracking of staff leave, data entry for absence records and HR records, and other HR administration processes e.g. probation and appraisal.
This role is part of our Operations and Professional Services team. This is an onsite role working Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week. We offer generous benefits, including free school lunch during term time, free on-site parking and use of indoor swimming pool and fitness suite.

Responsibilities
- Administer the recruitment process from advertising through to induction, ensuring all pre-employment checks are completed and accurate records are maintained in line with statutory requirements and school policies.
- Support employee lifecycle with a focus on safer recruitment and safeguarding compliance for staff, volunteers and some contractors.
- Provide administrative support for staff induction, safeguarding training, and the maintenance of the school’s Single Central Register.
- Track staff leave, enter absence data and HR records, and support other HR administration processes (e.g., probation and appraisal).
Qualifications and skills
- Organised and proactive administrator with excellent attention to detail and strong IT skills.
- Experience managing confidential information with discretion, meeting deadlines, and delivering high-quality service in a busy environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to build effective working relationships across the school.
- Prior experience in HR or recruitment administration is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
