Job Description and Person Specification
Got experience in bricklaying, carpentry, joinery or maintenance? Fancy putting your skills to good use and helping the next generation of tradespeople develop theirs?
Our Trades department has grown significantly in recent years, with more apprentices and full-time learners, alongside major investment in staff, facilities and equipment. Now we're looking for someone with industry experience, a positive attitude and a can-do approach to help support our growing team.
You don't need to be an experienced teacher to get involved. You'll help make practical lessons run smoothly, prepare materials and workspaces, maintain tools and equipment, and support learners as they develop their practical skills and industry knowledge. For those with the right experience and confidence, there's also the opportunity to progress into teaching through a development programme, with a mentor and a College-funded Level 3 teaching qualification.
You'll need to be...
- experienced in a construction trade, such as bricklaying, carpentry, joinery or maintenance
- reliable, positive and ready to muck in as part of a team
- organised and able to prepare materials, tools and equipment for practical sessions
- committed to maintaining a safe, stimulating learning and working environment
- keen to share your practical knowledge and support learners with different needs and abilities
What you'll be doing...
- preparing materials and resources for practical lessons and assessments
- supporting teaching, learning and assessment in the workshop for apprentices and full-time learners
- issuing, ordering and maintaining tools and equipment
- manufacturing products to support learner assessments, including using machinery where required
- helping maintain a safe, well-organised and engaging workshop environment
- supporting learners as they develop practical skills and the underpinning knowledge they need in their trade
- for more experienced and confident candidates, taking opportunities to teach as part of a supported development programme
In return, you'll get...
- the opportunity to use your industry experience to make a real difference to learners starting out in their careers
- the chance to join a growing department with modern facilities, equipment and ongoing investment
- opportunities for personal development and progression
- support from an experienced mentor if you progress towards teaching
- a College-funded Level 3 teaching qualification as part of the development programme
- the opportunity to build a career in education, with excellent progression routes
