This is a key role in helping Exeter City Council meet its statutory health and safety responsibilities and in supporting a strong, positive safety culture across all services. As part of our Corporate Occupational Health & Safety Team, you'll provide expert operational advice, guidance and hands-on support—making a real difference to how our people work, stay safe, and look after their wellbeing.
Responsibilities
- You’ll provide professional health and safety advice across the council, helping to promote a positive safety culture through inspections, audits, investigations and training.
- You’ll support the development of policies and procedures, coach staff in using our compliance system (AssessNET), assist with specialist assessments such as PEEPs, DSE and workplace health screening, and produce clear reports and briefings for managers.
- The role is varied and hands-on, requiring flexibility and the ability to visit sites across the city at short notice.
Qualifications
- A qualified health and safety professional (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent) with strong technical knowledge and excellent communication skills.
- You’ll be confident working independently and collaboratively, able to tailor advice to different audiences, and comfortable presenting information clearly.
- You’ll also be flexible, proactive, and ready to work across a diverse range of services—sometimes at short notice or in challenging environments.
