About you
ECC's Public and Green Space department have various posts available within our team to undertake street cleansing and grounds maintenance works throughout the city of Exeter. Experience is useful, but not essential as training is provided for the available roles. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic individuals, who have a can-do attitude, and a dedication to high standards. Candidates will ensure Exeter is a safe and clean environment for everyone, and be able to use good communication and interpersonal skills within their role. Knowledge of health and safety regulations is desirable.
Essential skills include:
- A good general standard of education to GCSE or equivalent standard in two suitable subjects (Maths and English preferred)
- The ability to work as part of a team
- Experience of cleansing, horticulture, grounds maintenance services or similar outdoor activities
- Experience in operating cleansing or grounds maintenance equipment
- Experience of implementing and maintaining safe systems of work
Applicants must hold a valid UK driver's licence. The P&GS Mechanical Skills role requires a C driver's licence.
About the role
Public and Green Space operatives work as part of a wide team, and play a significant role in keeping Exeter looking good, whilst maintaining a clean and safe environment for residents and visitors alike. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to, litter picking, deep clean and graffiti removal. The role offers a clear pathway for progression, and enrolment in the Local Government Pensions scheme. Successful candidates may be expected to carry out on-call and weekend duties.
