Exeter City FC is delighted to offer a Football Experience Work Experience Programme this July, designed to give students a unique insight into how a professional football club operates across multiple departments. This immersive week will provide participants with the opportunity to learn from and spend time with staff across the Academy, First Team, Women's Team, and Club Operations.

Rather than focusing on just one area, this programme is designed to give students a broad and realistic understanding of the different roles that contribute to the success of a football club, both on and off the pitch. During the week, students can expect:

  • An introduction to Exeter City FC and the values of the club
  • Insight into player development pathways through the Academy Department
  • Exposure to the day-to-day workings of First Team and Women's football
  • Practical tasks, observation opportunities and Q&A sessions with club staff

This placement is ideal for students with a strong interest in football, sport, or the wider sports industry, who are keen to learn, ask questions and gain hands-on experience in a professional club environment.

The placement will be based at The Cliff Hill Training Ground but may involve some travel to St James Park Stadium. The placement will start on Tuesday 7th July 2026 and run for a minimum of 4 days. It may include a 5th day, Saturday 11th July (depending on our pre-season calendar - to be confirmed nearer the time). Spaces are limited, and applicants will be selected based on enthusiasm, interest and suitability for the programme.

Application Criteria

To apply for the Exeter City FC Football Experience Work Experience Week, applicants must:

  • Be part of a formal school work experience programme (typically Year 10/11)
  • Have a genuine interest in football, sport, or the sports industry
  • Be enthusiastic, reliable and willing to engage with a variety of departments
  • Be comfortable observing and learning in a professional sporting environment
  • Be able to commute to Cliff Hill Training Ground and St James Park Stadium

As places are limited, applicants will be asked to:

  • Complete a short application form
  • Provide a brief cover letter explaining why you would like to complete your work experience at the Club (max 500 words)

Once we have reviewed all applications, those taken onto the next stage will be asked to complete two short videos (full instructions will be provided at this stage).

IMPORTANT - Please ensure you complete the application process in full and ask for support from your School Work Experience co-ordinator if required. Any incomplete applications will not be considered for the next stage. The deadline for applications will be Thursday 12th February and you will be notified during week commencing 16th February whether you have progressed to the next stage.

We are expecting a significant number of applicants for these limited opportunities, therefore, inevitably we will have many disappointed applicants. We would like to thank you in advance for the time and energy that you put into applying to complete your Work Experience at Exeter City and although we are not going to be able to accommodate every candidate, we very much appreciate your application and wish you the very best for the future.
