Job Description
Our client is a rapidly growing technology business, working with a global blue chip client base. As a result of this growth and development within the finance team they seek an assistant management accountant to support the Head of Finance.
This is a varied role with responsibility for the day-to-day financial operations of the business, including accounts payable, bank reconciliations across UK and international accounts, payroll and supporting the production of management accounts. The business is growing and the finance team are developing their systems and processes, there is real opportunity for this role to develop and for the right individual develop their finance skills. The role is based at their site in Cambridge and requires ideally four days per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Manage the day-to-day accounts payable function.
- Process supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure invoices are correctly coded and allocated to the appropriate nominal accounts and cost centres.
- Maintain accurate supplier records.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare and process supplier payment runs.
- Respond to supplier and internal queries relating to accounts payable.
- Ensure appropriate controls and processes are followed.
Bank Reconciliations
- Complete regular bank reconciliations for all UK and international bank accounts.
- Ensure all bank transactions are accurately recorded in the accounting system.
- Investigate and resolve unreconciled items promptly.
- Identify and escalate any unusual or potentially incorrect transactions.
- Assist with foreign currency bank accounts and transactions where applicable.
Payroll
- Support the preparation and processing of monthly payroll.
- Ensure payroll information is accurate and submitted within required deadlines.
- Process and reconcile payroll-related accounting entries.
- Maintain appropriate payroll records.
- Liaise with payroll providers and relevant internal stakeholders as required.
- Assist with payroll-related queries.
Management Accounts
- Support the production of monthly management accounts.
- Assist with month-end accounting processes and timetable.
- Prepare journals, accruals and prepayments as required.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with the investigation and explanation of variances.
- Support the preparation of management information and financial reports.
- Develop an increasing level of responsibility for management accounting activities as experience and capability develop.
General Finance
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records.
- Assist with year-end accounting and audit requirements.
- Provide information and support for budgeting and forecasting processes where required.
- Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls.
- Provide general support to the Finance function as required.
Person Specification
Essential
- Strong practical experience of accounts payable.
- Experience of bank reconciliations.
- Experience working with accounting systems.
- Experience working with Excel and financial data.
- Experience of working to deadlines and maintaining accurate financial records.
Desirable
- Experience of payroll processing.
- Experience supporting the production of management accounts.
- Experience of month-end accounting processes.
- Experience of working with international bank accounts or foreign currency transactions.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
- Strong accounts payable knowledge and practical experience.
- Strong Excel skills, including the ability to manipulate, analyse and reconcile financial data.
- Good understanding of reconciliations and control processes.
- Ability to identify, investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Ability to produce accurate financial information from accounting systems.
