Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Financial Controller to take ownership of the UK financial control environment within a growing pharmaceutical business based in Basingstoke.
This is a hands-on finance leadership role for someone who is as comfortable getting into the detail of the month-end close and balance sheet as they are improving processes, strengthening controls and developing their team.
You will be responsible for ensuring the UK finance function operates with accuracy, discipline and control, while continually looking for ways to make it faster, more automated and more robust.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Own the UK month-end close, including the close calendar, cut-off, review and sign-off.
- Produce management accounts directly from the ERP, investigating and eliminating any issues.
- Own the integrity and quality of monthly financial reporting.
- Take full ownership of the UK balance sheet and ensure robust reconciliation discipline.
- Lead monthly balance sheet reviews, challenging movements, aged items and unsupported balances.
- Maintain a strong financial control environment across the UK business.
- Own the UK finance SOP estate end to end, including drafting, version control, training records, self-inspection, deviations and CAPA.
- Maintain robust supplier and customer master data governance.
- Ensure finance controls are appropriate for an audited and regulated pharmaceutical environment.
- Own the UK statutory audit, from planning through to completion.
- Apply strong technical accounting judgement under FRS 102 or IFRS.
- Ensure accounting policies and financial reporting remain accurate, compliant and appropriately controlled.
- Ensure the ERP remains a reliable source of financial information.
- Build and maintain your own reports rather than relying on external support for every requirement.
- Lead, manage and develop the UK transactional finance team.
You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong technical, operational and people leadership experience.
We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Ownership of a full month-end close and statutory audit within a business of comparable scale and complexity.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge under FRS 102 or IFRS.
- Experience gained within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Experience with Sage or an ERP system.
